Sell (price) or keep a modified 85 GSL?
Hi Guys, it's been ages since I was last active on the forum. I apologize if this question should be better asked in another section, but here goes....
I have a 85 GSL, with a rebuilt 91 Jspec TII motor&tranny swap. Engine is ported, 3 inch exhaust, haltech e6k, GSL-SE rear and brakes. Engine has about 15k on it, and IIRC around 140k on the chassis ( but all the drivetrain is less). The paint's is ok shape, not too oxidized, but there is a bit of the old rear well rust which is pretty common.
The thing unfortunately has been sitting for awhile. It ran fine but needs a tune last I was able to run it about 3 years ago, but the front brake rotors are sized to the pads and I haven't had time to pull it apart to get it rolling again.
I'm in the process of moving cross country, and although I hate to do it, I'm considering selling my baby. How much do you think I could get for it in its current condition, or would I be significantly better off trying to get it rolling and have it shipped to keep or sell it when I have to the time to get her back more pristine condition.
Thoughts? Thanks.

If you like it keep it and fix it. If you want to sell it don't fix a thing.
The kind of guy that'll buy this car is gonna want to go in his own direction with it. He might not want oe brakes, or he might want a different rear end setup (like tri link on the account of the upper trailing arm rust).
But then again there are quite a few guys out there that want to buy an already built car. I just don't think that RX7's are that type of car due to the less than desirable engine to the uneducated.

And even fixed it won't fetch that much money honestly. Most guys who want first gens don't want them motor swapped. I can say this from experience, I TII swapped an FB and it wasn't worth nearly what I thought it would fetch.
I'd still like to see some pictures and help you out if possible though!

I don't have any recent pictures, but some pictures of when I first did the swap can be found here: https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generati...t-pics-216129/
Since this thread the engine was rebuilt, and street ported. It's an awesome ride. Extremely quick from 30 to 100. It had some minor bugs to work out, but with a little effort could be a real beast. It needs a better turbo, and I need to figure out why the ignition starts to miss trigger around 7200 rpm. Of course right now I need to replace the battery, and figure out why the starter solenoid doesn't click, and clean the rust of the brake rotors so it can roll again.
I honestly hate to part with it, but I can't justify to my wife that it's worth paying to ship it across country again, when I had neither the time nor money to play with it for several years, and now doesn't run.
What I'd like to know is if I can justify the marginal cost of moving it and fixing it to the marginal increase in value. But it sounds like I can't, since it's not worth much to anyone but me. I know I will never get anywhere close to what I put into it, that's just the nature of hobbies.

penske rental to move precious stuff you don't trust with the movers? I did that
when I moved from Pitts to Charlotte. Added a car trailer for a few hundred extra
for the penske truck and drove it down, stashed the truck contents and car in
the garage and drove a rental car back to make the rest of the move.
Depends how far I guess, if its coast to coast then it would be more of a
challenge to make the time for the drive and fly back.
