What happened to Search Functionality

It's been awhile since I've been on here but it seems like the website was updated and now if you search the way it shows up is absolutely un-usable.

Is this just me? I've tried on Chrome, IE and Safari and it all looks brutal..

You're right. The new forum layout and format is hideous and I don't know why they keep making these changes which reduce usability. My solution is to use the forum less often.

I try to keep my forum look to "Classic NextGen", but the search has almost always been awful, IMO. I usually go to google and type in what I'm looking for with the phrase "rx7club.com" in the search at the same time.

I'm with Jeff, though, the layout is getting to the point where I spend less time on here.

Oh, I thought I was using it wrong and felt super guilty for making new threads . I usually just google a question with SA/FB rx-7 and this site pops up.

When googling, include the following and it will only search this site: "site:rx7club.com"

glad its not just me. Looks like I will be spending even less time on here than I was.

Shame. The search functionality wasnt terrible a couple years ago. I could at least find stuff.

100% agree.

I wonder why IB keeps making this forum harder to use.

We don't want or need these changes.

I certainly didn't ask for them and I know no one else here did.

What gives? Are people at IB just bored? Or simply mismanaged?

If this downward trend continues, I'm not sure what I'll do. What I can tell you is my usage has already dropped 90% since the infinite scroll nonsense came out. Yes I disabled it but the new format sucks so much that I find better things to do with my online car time than spend it here.*

The way I see it, the forum can only go one of three directions:

1) go back to the way it was before all the stupid changes (yes please!)

2) stay the way it is (no!)

3) get worse (no no no!!! but at this point I wouldn't put it past them)

*There will be no more long articles I loved to write as a freebie service to help support this forum's archive database. Thanks to the new BS format, I can't hardly use the forum effectively anymore so why even bother.

Instead of using the search bar under your username on the top right, I use the "search this forum" drop down in the specific sub forums I want to search in...so if in the 1st gen sub forum, I use that search and it only brings back threads under 1st gen.

Agreed, that's what I do as well and it usually works pretty well. I actually kinda like the new forum layout, but if you guys have specific concerns or suggestions (short of just a blanket "put it all back to the way it was") let me know and I can raise the concern in the mod section. IB is very active on here listens to our suggestions at least

My only issue is the default to infinite scroll. Either remove it entirely, as it seems to cause more problems, or set Classic as the default view. My biggest issue on any browser I use (Firefox, Chrome, IE) is that the page will try and load text first, then the infinite scroll, then jump up and down like crazy, then the pictures. Sometimes when clicking on the end of a thead, it shoots me into the next thread about halfway in, so then I'm lost in a thread I didn't want.

This is also very annoying, I wasn't quite sure what I was seeing earlier today when trying to use the forum. I'm glad I'm not the only one!

But I generally agree with 82transam, it does definitely have some nice features that weren't here before.

Issues with the 'Search' function imply that people actually used it - which never seems to be the case for new users!

Since the forum changes, if you don't log in you get advertising of death with long load times for all the crap they want you to see. I've cut way back on my involvement on this site due in part to that, and think that's been the case with a lot of old timers (10+yrs on this forum); they just have better things to do than navigate a bad GUI interface, and subsequently you don't see them posting very often anymore. Too much trouble,...

The one thing that has helped with viewing this site a bunch is to use an ad blocker. On my mac, I use chrome and have the ad blocker extension.

The search on this forum has always been pretty horrific. I just type in to Google "1st gen rx7 *info i want to know*". Oh god - the ads!!!

I much prefer the www.RX7fb.com ? Index page forum. No ads, easy to search and find info, good info and an awesome group of knowledgeable people on there
