seems slower than my last 12a

i had a red 84 gsl that had some minor mods no motor work that a friend wrecked long story and no i got no money for it. i recently bought an 85 SE with some supension mods and an msd 6a direct fire other than that its stock since i got the car i have modded the stock intake box and installed a k&n and replaced the 02 sensor. the car has way more tourqe than my 12a in the lower rpms but when i get passed 5 it sux it feels like it doesnt really want to be up there is this common on the 13b or am i just used to my 12a. im going to install a dual alt pully and change fuel filter this weekend. the motor has 178k and i have removed all a/c and air pump and acv and put the block off plate on is there something that i should do or dont know about. it feels faster but not as spirited and i miss it. help

Are your 5&6 port actuators opening?

yeah it might be your 5th and 6th port sleves stuck closed, or the motor has lost compression. if you know what the 5th and 6th port actuaters look like, have someone rev your engine, at 4800 you should see a peg like thing turn.

or those actuators on the lower intake manifold 1 on each side with arms on them and vaccume lines running off of them? if they arent opening what can i do to fix it. ive read that i can remove the sleeves and clean them but sometimes the carbon will sieze them and when you go to remove them it will leave big chunks of carbon in your motor which could make you blow an apex seal. any tips or tricks out there.

Don't give up on your SE yet! Perhaps you have a gloged cat or something of that nature.

edit:
And have you Injectors cleaned.

you're posative that your 5th and 6th ports are opening? That's my guess. I am having the same problems with my SE. and no this is not a 13b thing cause my Streetported s4/s5 loves the high revs! but yea check the cat as well.

Do you have any hills that you can go up. If you have ahigh loss of power going uphills. Meaning that the car will top out like 60-70mph floored then there is a good chance you have blockage of the cat system. In neutral does the motor rev to redline with ease or does it seem like it is struggling to get there?
Also there is the factor of compression. Fuel pressure is another. It's the same
procdure of testing as any rotary. The only inherent problem on the Se is the idling system casuing problems at times. Power loss is not one of the issues in the system with a moptor with good compression and tuned correctly. But it does require alot of fuel to supply those big *** injectors we have to make power.
Just take it step by step checking all the basics first. If you get stumped just pm me. I have more diagnostic time on Se's than i care to remember. rx7doctor
