se cold start problem

when starting the car after sitting for a while, the cold start will take kick the tach to almost 5k stay there for 1-3 minutes instead of the 30sec or so it should then drop down around 2k and start jumping, 2k-4k. it will continue to cycle like this for up to 15 minutes. i've found the only wy to get it to stop is fight it to hold a steady rpm with my foot. once i do that it will drop to its normal idle.

Have you adjusted your cold start idle screw? I'm not talking about the cam itself. (You may already know, but...) there is a screw just to the left of the cam screw (sitting in car).

could be the vacuum solenoid - but then again when mine did this everyone was suggesting the vacuum solenoid and it turned out the ports were binding - too much air coming in ment the EGI computer assumed the revs were being underreported, so it pulsed the throttle in an effort to find the 800 RPM idle it was looking for.

In my case cleaning the aux ports worked. In the case of the solenoid, try to find a used one (new ones are a few hundred bucks!)

there was a leak in a gasket on the upper part of the intake and the high idle screw needed adjusting. friends car and she took it to a shop that did a bunch of stupid **** (rotary shop at that) and then they finally fixed it right after causing more problems.

and tell Jen that I will take her SE worries away if she would only give me the keys.
