Screeching starter

The starter is new and it just started screeching today whenever its engaged. The car still turns over. I figured I'd check it out to see if it was loose, but just wondering if anyone else has run into this problem. Thanks

hmmm. ok so what could be making my car eat up starters? It's got a new battery, new alternator, and a new starter. I think this is the second or third starter on it...

Check for loose mounting bolts first. But I believe that low voltage to the starter (caused by old battery cables) could result in poor starter engagement. The old starters might not have been bad, just not getting enough juice...

Did the old ones screech also? If not, the new one may have a bad internal bearing, or it may not be lined up properly. Have you inspected the teeth on the flywheel. An engine tends to stop in the same place each time it is shut off, thereby wearing on the same flywheel teeth on initial start. As the teeth get worn and begin slipping, it makes a very unpleasant noise.
