Scanners

Is there a scanner that will read 1984 GSL-SE codes?

Thanks - That's my queston, there is an ECU but I do not know if there are readable codes that go back that far.

It's a very very basic computer that may in fact be analog for all I can remember. It doesn't store or set fault codes. It's a more or less L-Jetronic system with a few bits and bobs to run the emissions solenoids.

Testing of anything is getting down and dirty with a DVOM IIRC the thing will work just fine with everything disconnected but the AFM and injectors. Might not run well, mind you, but it won't care.

i think there are some codes, but its such and analog thing that its only going to set a code for an open or short circuit.
why?

Not exactly a "code reader" but a system checker

The Test Plug is right there by the ECU under the passenger footwell. It will, in fact, read codes out to the driver if you look up a light to it, and compare the flashes to the legend in the FSM. Of note is that it won't report multiple codes, but it will report codes in priority; once you fix the first fault code, then it will display whatever next code is faulty, until you fix that one. There's also a means of reading O2 sensor output for rich/lean, IIRC...
