SA rear defrost cable

Hello, I looked through the parts catalog on foxed.ca and couldn't find the part number. My rear window defroster cable is missing, in a effort to restore what I can would anyone have a parts number for it. I assume its NLA but I would like to see. If it is, anyone have a picture of the part so I can make the cable? I can find a few for the s2 and s3 years but I think they are different.

Thank you,

If you are referring to the wiring on the Window harness?
The 79 set up is unique, as the connection to the main harness to the defrost wires is part of the hatch strut assys.

The 79 assy is illustrated in the parts catalogue (above). You can see the wiring is actually a part of the strut. And is NLA. The 80-85 strut will work just fine, but includes no wiring. I believe you can remove the 79 harness from your original struts (if still in one piece?) and tape them to the 80-style strut.

As you ask, a photo of 78-79 set up would certainly help!

I did exactly what Stu suggests, moved the wiring from my old strut to a new one. The mechanism works by compressing a spring backed ringed "spikey" contact onto another flat copper ring as the strut compresses with the closing of the hatch. And FWIW mine is an 83 GSL.

Hmmm, thinking about it, maybe that's my wiring for the rear wiper.

Unf I've stored my car for the winter or I'd snap a pick and post it.

LOL- yep, for your wiper. Similar-ish for the 79s...

Ok, I don't have the cable or old strut.. would the later series ones work or should I just make the cable at this point? I honestly, haven't looked at the glass or connectors.. I just know it's missing and ads on ebay only list s2 and s3 years.

Thank you for information provided so far. I did see that picture but I didn't realize it was sold as one part.

Can't speak to the similarity of function BTW 79 strut wiring and FB rear-wiper harness, tho would be an obvious first choice! Nothing lost in chasing down a used FB/wiper strut and see if/how it can be separated from the dead strut. I presume that, because the FB harness is designed to attach to a MOTOR, rather than the glass defroster, some mods will need to be made. The obv advantage of a strut-imbedded wiring is solves the issue of expansion/contraction of harness as strut extends on opening...
And of course, it would not be impossible to chase down a used 79 strut as well!! Place an Ask in the WTS/WTB Parts section of the forum!!
