Drum to Disc rear - Handbrake Cables

I'm getting kind of weary of parking my car without a handbrake. I already ordered a wrong part once... What exactly do I need to get my handbrake working with the axle I swapped? I was told I just needed the rear bits of the cables that go to the calipers, but upon closer inspecition of the (1) correct rear cable I ordered, it wouldn't mate at all with the front portion.

Anyone know what parts exactly I need? Or does anyone have a set?

Perhaps you had better take some pictures of the two ends. You should be able to reuse the cable from handbrake to the spliter then the first cable off the spliter. This will join up to the first cable off the brake caliper.

Your best bet is to stop thinking someone will figure it out for you and start looking
at the parts fiches to see what part numbers are common for what years.

Sgt Fox has a website with all this info for you to look up the parts and see whats
needed. Just go to the link in his sig.

im having the same problem waiting for my cables to come in.... the cables have to have a T end on them and yes they bolt onto the caliper but the thing is is there two specific cables or can i just use two of the same cable? is the a designated L & R ?

to do it:

1. Jack up car
2. Remove old axle
3. Install new axle
4. Change rear most hand brake cables with ones that are for disc brakes
5. Un jack car
6. Enjoy LSD

To remove rear axle:

1. take off drive shaft
2. remove body to axle rubber brake line at the axle
3. remove rear most park brake cables where they attach to the body
4. take off 4 controll arm bolts
5. take off 2 watts link bolts
6. drag axle out from under the car.

tip: keep a jack under the axle, its heavy. You can also use it to lift/lower the axle so take tension off of the rubber bushings, it makes the bolts come out easier.

just remember, though, that your 82 fb will have a different pinion flange than some 83's and 84-85. Unless you know which flange is on yours, and get the axle to match, you may just want to grab the driveshaft with the axle you buy.

screw all those wussy jacks, do it like a man, with 2 other men... hold that **** in place while someone rams the bolts home, that's what we did...

I also burned out and replaced all of the bushings in the rear (control arms, watts link, sway bar) and went with much beefier sway bar... Thing corners like champ but with the shocks set at 5 it's (literally) a pain int he *** to drive on regular roads... My buddy put in my front shocks, how hard is it to get the covers off to adjust?

I did it like a man! (singular) you did it like men! and yeah i left that one little detail out... the bushing sleves like to fuse themselfs to the bolts sometimes, they then have to be burnt out. no idea on the shocks, i dont have mine yet.

No we literally burnt out all of the bushings (rubber.) to replace with nice red polyester ones.

Make sure that any final tightening of the bushing mounts is done with the weight on the wheels. Very important!

yes! forgot that step too! if you dont tighten them with the weight on the wheels, it will put tension on the bushings when weight is on the wheels and they will wear out quicker.
