what problems would you encounter if the presilencer was longer?

if it was longer, it wouldn't fit

I'm not too familiar with the FB exhausts, but I think the *longer* presilencer just replaces the cat. converters. SA's don't have any, so the presilencer replaces a small heat exchanger behind the header. I guess if you wanted to use the longer presilencer, you'd have to cut the pipe that goes over the axle and weld a new flange on it.

I have a full dual racing beat exhaust from my 83 on my 79 now,and it fit fine. The Racing beat exhaust is made for 79-85 ,and will mount to anything with the only piece being different is the header which will be different for only 13B SE cars, and 12A cars. The center section of the dual setup has bungs on it for the different years of the cars, and the kit has brackets for the different mounts.I am actually glad I held on to that stuff now that I am using the exhaust on the 79 after 6 years on the 83.

I have two SA RX-7s. Yellow one which sports a 13B had a GSLSE RB exhaust system, except for a few hangers in the middle it would bolt up as ONE unit. Yellow 2 has a header, straight pipe and RB muffler. Unless they are complete system 12A or 13B you can only replace as ONE unit.

IMHO, you don't need presilencers if you have a RB muffler. I have RB mufflers on both SAs and on one GSLSE. But I do have two presilencers on my RX-3 wagon due that I have a stock Mazda muffler on and it runs quiet.

If you have a header already and no short 79-80 presilencer you will need to cut into your exhaust to make it work, the long presilencer will point towards the middle of your exhaust too far.

There is no reason to use the longer one. Just order the proper parts you will be happy with them.
