Update:

Layouts for the 12A, 13b gsl-se, and 13b-RE Cosmo pans are done.. the prototypes are in the works.

Things would normally move quicker, but we also have 8 cars in the shop for engine rebuilds right now as well.

You have a good idea for strengthening the plate stack and at the same time improving the pan seal.
I would like to see the FD version have two 90º angles down the two sides for additional support. You could leave another ½” of material during the cutting phase. You would probably need to heat the area before bending it. It might be easier to use a separate angle piece with longer studs down the sides.
Good luck with it,
Barry

Update:

Got a few samples cut out at the laser cutter, fitment is perfect. Here are a couple of pics of the 12A & 13B GSL-SE braces. We will be starting production on Monday, then they go to the plater, will have kits available for shipping the first week in April.

Do the prototypes work just as well as the main production ones?

I want to buy one for my TII swap, but I would need it now in order to get done before deals gap.

The prototypes are going to be sent out for plating with the production braces.

Shucks,

I guess it will have to wait until the rebuild, which sadly I dont see being that far away lol

I guess it really depends on how my build keeps going, right now its moving forward, but with a rotary we know these things can change very quickly.

Certainly interested. My pan is kinda leaky as I type, so it would be nice to have some insurance. Not now, but hopefully I can scrounge a few bucks together over the summer.

in a 1st gen why would i need these ?
2nd gens have the motor mounts on the oil pan which cause's flex on the oil pan to some degree
but the oil pan on the first gens is completely away from any flex ,motor mounts on the front housing ( where would this help me in this type of application ?)
providing when i put the oil pan on correctly and space out my tighten of my bolts on the pan in a sequence 1 -10 2- 9 3-8 bolt pattern. again
provide me with a real world application with helping me with leaks ?
I will be in to.

I doubt it's the thickness that gets the price up.

Setting up the laser
Plating the brace
Bolts and Nuts
At least 10-25% profit

Banzai, You sure make some nice friggin products, but I don't see the need for it on a 1G. Looks good though.

Consider the thickness of the oil pan on it's own. After tightening down all the bolts, even if you do it in the correct sequence, there is still some possibility of flex. That leads to leaks. Add the thickness of the brace and it will hold the oil pan lip flat and take the pressure from the bolts and spread it out more.

gr8 idea, but it's not an issue with 1st gens since the engine mounts in a way better location...

I think some of you are missing the point. Every 1st gen that has ever come into our shop has had some sort of oil pan leak. The motor mount location only plays a small role in the distribution of flex. The fact that the engine has a transmission bolted to the rear plate is a far greater cause of flex. By installing the brace there is a better distribution of torque over the sealing area of the pan, and reduction in flex through out the engine.

The good news is that we decided that the first production run would only be 8 of each so if nobody wants them then we just wont make any more, pretty simple.

Since you have a prototype, but may have limited interest, would they be available on a made per order basis?

No, we are producing the parts, we can easily use them at the shop for customer's cars that have already told us they want them. We will not make the braces one at a time, that would be very costly just in set up and minimum plating charges.

The purpose of this thread was to gauge interest, we went forward with the release of the products. However we would never release a product solely based off the feedback from this forum and we would not launch it by making 1000 of them either.

I plan on buying one for my TII swap FB.

I am just glad that someone is thinking about us FB owners, not alot of people are still making new products for our cars.

IMO if you have a negitive view on this product you should keep it to yourself. If there wasnt a purpose for this brace, then im sure no company would waste their time and money on R&D on a part that serves no purpose on a 20+ year old car.

Banzai, Just let me know when they are ready.

-Matt
