AB SA 12A oil pressure tap

My 12A from my SA does not have an oil pressure tap. Looking at my FB 12a the oil pressure tap is just below the oil filter housing on the rear housing. I am thinking I should be able to drill and tap a port at the same location on my SA 12a. Has anyone tapped an oil pressure port on a SA housing? Or is there an existing port I can tap into which I am not seeing?

its easier to tap the banjo bolt on your rear oil cooler line or get the spacer that rb sells that goes on the filter pedestal.

^i agree. it can be removed from the engine, drilled and taped, and all the metal shavings can be cleaned out before putting it back on the engine. doing the rear housing will cause these metal shavings to get down into the oil passage which isn't a good thing. now if u were building the engine and it was done to the rear housing before it was put back together, then i'd say yes. if the sa engines didn't have a sensor how did the gauge/light work?

When I rebuilt my engine, I retapped for a larger temp sender. Cast iron is a very grainy metal and does not tap cleanly. It can be done but going with ReSpeed's plate that goes under the oil filter is much simpler/easier solution.

I used '79 irons on my 85. I tapped the lower banjo bolt for the oil cooler lines. The tap is a BSPT, not an NPT so be careful.

The stock SA doesn't have an oil pressure guage, or a pressure light. It has an oil LEVEL light only.

I went with the RB Type II pressure and temp adaptor. Used a Type I for years; it's sitting around in a bag in the garage now.

interesting that they changed that from the pre 79 engines. being as i have never delt with engines from the sa, all engines i have delt with had provisions in the rear housing for oil pressure sensors.
