It's a rib case though... You'd have to follow similar steps as with the Turbo II swap IIRC.

Price range and availability? If its a $1200+ tranny, I think I'd still get it.

Most new trannies from the manufacturer cost on the order of $4-6k. Plus the six speed is not based on the rib case design, its a six speed so its obviously has some drastic internal differences. Plus I've heard of several people having problems with it.

Then there is the question, why do you need a six speed?

i was thinking about this as well... but to bolt it to a 12a, why the 6th gear ? hell i get bored when i hit five and want to shift more... other reasons 5th tops out to fast if you have alot of power, and id suppose youd need alot of power, i dont really know id love to have a 6 speed just for having one. but if theres problems with those trannys count me out on them. otherwise count me in.

I have heard of tranny problems with the RX8, it's really weak I guess.

Anyway, heres the gear ratios for the RX-8 compared to the gear ratios for a second gen Turbo II.

RX-8 Gear Ratio's

1st--3.76:1
2nd--2.27:1
3rd--1.65:1
4th--1.19:1
5th--1.00:1
6th--0.84:1
Final drive--4.44:1

TII Gear Ratio's

1st--3.483
2nd--2.015
3rd--1.391
4th--1.000
5th--0.719
Final drive--4.100

The RX-8 tranny is not related to any Mazda unit. It's built by Aisin and is a version of the 6-speed used in the Miata.

Thanks for the ratios! Let's see... 1st gear unusably low, 2-3-4-5-6 okay but could be closer.

Hmm.

- Pete (2.5:1 low gear, 1:1 high gear, and nice spacing in between... it's all I ask)
