RX-3 in Sport Compact Car
Has anyone seen the RX-3 in Sport Compact Car in the new september issue. Here's a pic of the engine. It has a gsl-se engine with a sinlge carb, a custom port job and what looks like a racing beat header in the picture. Does anyone have any idea of what kind of power this could produce. I have often thought that my SE intake looks a lot more restrictive than this set up.
Thanks,
Carson

it struck me strange that they never said how much power it was making, but i'd GUESS it's probably around 200-220 at the flywheel ...

Seems alot of people want flames out of their exhaust.
Is this a cool thing? Am I just "out of it" at 30?
I don't see any power benefits to it, or even a cosmetic one, but people with 7's seem to like flames alot.
Whenever I see a car shoot flames, I just think it's badly tuned and/or has an exhaust problem, not,
"Oh my good that thing must haul ***!"
I just want to know what's so cool about it? Please clue me in.

Well anyways, I think its pretty stupid too... I guess this is something movies such as gone in 60 seconds and the fast and furious taught you guys ... Fire + gasoline = BAD

I mean, look, I don't mind seeing a flame or two, but it's certainly not something that I would go out of my way to "create" ... besides, how does one actually "see" flames when they are driving their car????
So what would be the point to you wanting to try to make your car do it?

on a more serious note, however ... anyone know what manifold that is? i know someone earlier identified it as an IDF carb (i'm clueless as to the differences, so forgive me ) but i'm curious because if it's an SE motor, then i want to know because i'd consider getting the Weber to replace my Dellorto ...

You can tell its an IDF because the velocity stacks are closer together than an IDA, You can see part of teh diaphragm accelorator pump which IDAs dont have cus they are piston, and also the top cover on an IDA is smooth and that one doesnt look like my IDA. OK now as far as the engine goes i bought the article and it doesnt say what year the motor is, but i think it looks and appears to be an old 4 port motor. This is just what i think, can any one else tell for sure by looking at it? The reason why i think its a 4 port is cus it said its custom ported and the 4 ports are much more popular when it comes to porting cus we dont have to deal with the 6 port crap. Also all it says about the port is that its "custom" whatever that is, most all ports are. It said that he used to run a Bridge motor in his 83 rx-7. But ya thats and IDF for sure. I bet he runs big street ports, if it was a bridge he would have bought an IDA. IDA'S can be tuned much easier and thats what you need with a bridge or a PP. I bet with that IDF and a good port job he is running about 180hp.
