RX-3 in Sport Compact Car

Has anyone seen the RX-3 in Sport Compact Car in the new september issue. Here's a pic of the engine. It has a gsl-se engine with a sinlge carb, a custom port job and what looks like a racing beat header in the picture. Does anyone have any idea of what kind of power this could produce. I have often thought that my SE intake looks a lot more restrictive than this set up.

Thanks,
Carson

damn that engine bay is bare

diabolical1 08-01-02 01:16 AM

yeah, i saw it. that car's pretty NICE!!!!
it struck me strange that they never said how much power it was making, but i'd GUESS it's probably around 200-220 at the flywheel ...

Keaponlaffen 08-01-02 01:31 AM

I want my engine bay to be that empty :D

Do you know what porting it has? I very much doubt it would be making over 200hp especially since that carb's an IDF.

Holeee-Schmolee.

The article just said it had a custom port job. Whatever that is. Likely a streetport?

gamble302 08-01-02 05:25 PM

too bad hes usin a fram oil filter... i keep hearin mixed views on em still

fatboy7 08-01-02 08:44 PM

earlier in the article I think it said its' a bridgeport. if so what could that mean?

peejay 08-01-02 08:52 PM

bridgeport - anywhere from 200 to 300hp... probably in the 250 range.

82streetracer 08-01-02 09:04 PM

the artical says he's going to give it to his daughter when she turns 16.

16 year old girl + bridgeport Rx3 (must be premixing)= loss of a beutifully crafted rotory.

My god!!

Will an IDF Weber support that much horsepower?

peejay 08-01-02 10:50 PM

They make IDFs up to 48mm, chokes up to 42mm.

REVHED 08-01-02 10:59 PM

Cool... didn't know that.

etherhuffer 08-02-02 12:27 AM

I want to follow that car at night and see the flames out the tailpipe.

Seems alot of people want flames out of their exhaust.
Is this a cool thing? Am I just "out of it" at 30?

I don't see any power benefits to it, or even a cosmetic one, but people with 7's seem to like flames alot.

Whenever I see a car shoot flames, I just think it's badly tuned and/or has an exhaust problem, not,
"Oh my good that thing must haul ass!"

I just want to know what's so cool about it? Please clue me in.

Fire = cool

What is their to understand? ;)

I bet it makes between 200 and 225 cus those IDF carbs are no where near what an IDA will do. they just arent as tunable we means less horse pwr.

Mike says in a Beavis and Butthead voice "FIRE FIRE FIRE FIRE FIRE FIRE EHEEHEH HEHEHHE HEHEHEHE EHEHEHEHHE COOL FIRE FIRE FIRE FIRE"

Well anyways, I think its pretty stupid too... I guess this is something movies such as gone in 60 seconds and the fast and furious taught you guys ... :D Fire + gasoline = BAD

Man, I thought I was the only one that old ... :D Sometimes I think maybe I'm just not "with it" these days, but now I don't feel too bad. I'm almost 30 as well ...

I mean, look, I don't mind seeing a flame or two, but it's certainly not something that I would go out of my way to "create" ... besides, how does one actually "see" flames when they are driving their car????

So what would be the point to you wanting to try to make your car do it?

diabolical1 08-03-02 11:42 AM

on a more serious note, however ... anyone know what manifold that is? i know someone earlier identified it as an IDF carb (i'm clueless as to the differences, so forgive me :D ) but i'm curious because if it's an SE motor, then i want to know because i'd consider getting the Weber to replace my Dellorto ...

Rotortuner 08-03-02 12:29 PM

You can tell its an IDF because the velocity stacks are closer together than an IDA, You can see part of teh diaphragm accelorator pump which IDAs dont have cus they are piston, and also the top cover on an IDA is smooth and that one doesnt look like my IDA. OK now as far as the engine goes i bought the article and it doesnt say what year the motor is, but i think it looks and appears to be an old 4 port motor. This is just what i think, can any one else tell for sure by looking at it? The reason why i think its a 4 port is cus it said its custom ported and the 4 ports are much more popular when it comes to porting cus we dont have to deal with the 6 port crap. Also all it says about the port is that its "custom" whatever that is, most all ports are. It said that he used to run a Bridge motor in his 83 rx-7. But ya thats and IDF for sure. I bet he runs big street ports, if it was a bridge he would have bought an IDA. IDA'S can be tuned much easier and thats what you need with a bridge or a PP. I bet with that IDF and a good port job he is running about 180hp.

Just had to post whore about how sweet it would be to have that much nothing in my engine bay. It looks like there is more pavement than engine.

jeremy 08-03-02 01:11 PM

i need to get my crankshaft clearanced too, lol. maybe new heads.

engine 13b from an '85 custom ported, tranny from '88 tII, and 3.90:1 rearend. very sweet car. what are the radiator hoses? i would like to snag me some of those.
