Rust under battery....worry point?

Been having too much fun with my M3 and neglected the RX7 for a few months. Dug in a little last night to clean up the engine bay a bit and strip out non-func cruise, useless sub-zero, and the washer bottle I never use. Poking around and trying to locate some removable wires, I pulled the battery. Underneath the plastic tray was rusted as all hell. The bolt nearest the headlight pulled a 1"x1" piece of former metal out with it. Is this an area I need to worry about? Not really structural is it?

I wanted to turbo this car, but I'm now wondering if I shouldn't even bother? I'll try to get pics later today.

That is a very normal spot for rust.

I would hose it down with something to kill it and then just not worry.

What should i hose it down with? Should I have someone weld in a panel or something?

I see you're in Snellville. Who around here is good with rotaries? Anyone I can get a good factory compression test run off of?

Thanks!!

Water to Kill the battery acid and then Por15 to kill the rust.

David Girod has a tester. He did post here some. Address is limitededitionrx7@joimail.com <- if it is still a good address.

I cant afford to pay some one to work on my cars so I do it all myself with the help of my dad.

it displaces water (hence Water Displacement - (formula) 40)

it wont stop rust. go to autozone or similiar. they sell a spray that chemically stops rust.

POR-15 is THE rust killer.

But I painted mine with some rustoleum to match my engine bay.

Another good idea I picked up last week is using brake rotor paint. Its very good with heat, lots of color options, and very protective. I'm actually planning on using it to detail the dirty misc, parts. Like my Alternator.
