runs poor under 3k

I need some help with this one. I finally got the GSL-SE to idle at 800RPM. Changed the 02 sensor and it fixed idling and running rich problem. When i go and drive the car it doesn't have no power under 3k RPM. The car boggs and chokes, but when it passes 3k rpm it drives normal. Has anybody ever had this happen to them before? If so, what did you do to fix the problem? Your time and help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

it sounds like a fuel problem. have you changed or checked the obvious?

Maybe your apex seal springs are getting weak. At higher RPM, there is enough force to keep them out against the rotor housings. Not so much the lower you go. But then your idle would suffer too. Hmm. Have you looked at the spark plugs lately? What does Long Duck have to say about this?

who's Long Duck? Anyways, the motor is a rebuild motor with 2XX miles on it. I can't even redline the damn thing until the motor is broken in. Which leads to another question which is off topic. How do i exactly breakthe motor in? As for the spark plug its got some carbon on it (running rich), but not as bad as my SA22C. The spark from the plugs is fairly strong. any other suggestions? thanks

Have you checked your lead ignition? The fact that it runs well only at higher RPMs should indicate that it is not a fuel delivery issue. I lost my lead ignition a while back, and only had power over 3k so that's my guess. Good luck with it, I hope its not your apex seals as suggested earlier.

I''m going with the ignition suggestion too. I've run in to this before because of to much resistance in the plug wires on both my 7 and my talon. Runs real crappy at low rpms, But when you give it some pedal It picks up like nothings wrong.

It could be voltage leaking from the plug wires. Does it run worse on a rainy day?

Replace plugs & wires. Then see if your mix is too rich. You never want to run too lean but too rich can cause bogging. I had that when I 1st got the Holley 750 till it was tweaked just right.

running rough under 3k is normal, that is just what you have to deal with, after doing the full bridge port.

Ignition problem.... OR a vacuum line has popped of the manifold

I'll go swap out the leading ignitor. One quick question, will the 12A ignitors work on the GSL-SE? I have 6 ignitors I pocketed from the junkyard. Can I use the rx-7 instead of GM ignitors to do the DLISFID. I think thats right. oh yea, Thanks for the help guys.

as for the question jeff20B - Does it run worse on a rainy day? I won't know the answere to that until it starts to rain in S.F. I got the car like last month and since then I only put like 2 miles on it. Just test driving it around the block.

All '81-'85 ignitors are the same although there were some very minor differences throughout the years. Yes, 12A ignitors will work on a GSL-SE.

I have nothing but RX-7 ignitors on my dual leading ignitor direct fire ignition systems. I've only worked with GM HEI ignitors on a friend's rotaries. Just use whichever ignitors are easier to find/purchase.
