Rpm ???

I know that in a normal (piston) motor the best rpm to cruise at is 2700. (if you want to save gas) I was just wandering if the rotory was any different. what is the best (for gas and to be nice to the car) Revs to sit at on the highway and street?

I park mine somewhere around 3500 for general cruising.

But 6500 works too!

Why 2700? Never heard that before. I'd think it depends on the power curve, so there wouldn't be a magical number.

dunno about 2700 for boingers, it varies from engine to engine. As for the rotary, try and keep it above 2000 to keep carbon from building up, and below 4K during cruising. The 4k rule is really more specific to 6 port motors, but you'll usually save gas staying below 4 anyway.

6500??? No thanks I like keping my cars for more than 30k miles...the RPM range around 2700 give or take 400 (depending on size) is perfect for optimal fuel consumption......(this is something I have read and heard for the last...7 years or so, and not just around here, thats why modern cars will cruse at highway speed(60-70mph) at AROUND 2700 rpm(thats legal driving, not the kind of driving 6500 revs will do) and why cars that were built int the late '70s and early '80s will cruise at 55 at the same revs.I had a '79 280ZX and hated this. Anyways, jut wandering since the 2 types of motors are completly different. I like crusing at 3500 just 'cause of the sound that insane little motor makes. I just didn't know if I should drive it diferently. Thanks alot guys
