Question Rpm?

Heres a quick question. Since the output shaft turns 3 times per 1 rotor rotation, Is the rpm gauge based on output revolutions or rotor revolutions? I'm just curious.
Also, on the stock temp gauge, where should the needle run? It seems that the car runs really hot. I haven't anything to compare it to, though I have watched the guage go up to about mid point and cycle down as if it is cooling. I did reciently replace the thermo.

RPM = E-shaft rev's.

Temp should go no more than halfway up. I'd get nervous at right of half and shutdown at three quarters.

The rpm guage, or tachometer, measures two sparks per eccentric shaft rotation, the same as a 4 boinger. An aftermarket tach on a rotary needs to be set to 4 cylinder mode.

I wouldn't get worried untill the temp guage went over half.
