Question a rotor question

So, I made a mistake and when I pulled apart my engine I didnt clearly mark my rotors as to which is front and which is rear. Now that Im getting ready to put the engine back together I dont know which is which . So how do I tell which is front and which is rear?

What kind of engine is it? They're both the same on some motors. If they're different, some have an "F" and "R" stamped in the combustion recesses. Clean this area so you can see it better. Or, if the oil rings are still installed, you can tell by the orientation of the springs (see the Pineapple Racing vid for a good explanation).

the rotors on the s4 t2 are the same front and rear. if you swap them its not a huge deal, although the bearings and seals are worn in and "matched"

if you changed the bearings, the rotors can go in either spot

The gears might tell you the direction they turned. Look at the wear pattern on the rotor gears. Can you tell which direction they went? There should be more wear on one side of the teeth than the other.

I can't remember if that is true or not. My buddy orded one of those scrap rotors from RB I think it was to use for identifying all the seals and such.

Of course this thing was seriously fucked, 2 of teh apex seals turned into shrapnel and left good dents and embedded themselves in the rotor...

Anyways, I cleaned it up for him so it actually looked like metal rather than the black mass of crap it looked like when he got it in the mail. He said it was from a TII.

The grooves in the comustion chamber were parallel to the sides of the rotor, is this what you mean or something else?

Oh that! Yeah! If I remember correctly the TII Rotors have a similar thing only on one side.

13B rotors are different.

the 76-85 12A's have a leading deep recess LDR rotor, like your picture, if you want details you can read the 'rotary engine' book, but the LDR rotor promotes a faster combustion event than the MDR

the 13B and 68-75 12A uses a medium deep recess MDR rotor. the combustion recess is symetrical, and thus the rotor will interchange front to rear.
