Rotary Rebuild Question

Alright so i own a 81 rx-7 and im stuck on something...i need to replace the front rotor housing seal. ive taken everything off up to the housing itself and i cant figure out how it comes off. Ive taken all the bolts out except for the long one that is on the driver side that is underneith everything and goes though all the housings...its loose but i cant pull it out cause the rear housing is in the way. any way i took out all the bearings and the balancer and oil pump but there is a nother bushing in there that has a white seal thing there..I dont know if im supposed to pull that out and if so how..so any information would be greatly advised thanx

This may sound like a dumb question but is the motor out of the car?

Yep, flywheel is coming off inorder to access the bolts holding it together. If it is already stripped to the block, removal of the engine will be a little easier.

rebuild video

You might want to invest in the rebuild video that Dan Atkins sells.

I also have heard from multiple reliable sources that if you take your engine apart, you're going to need new housing seals for all of them. I'm hoping someone more knowledgeable will chime in and state which seals must be replaced (they're the ones that are crush-fit upon tightening the eleventy billion nuts).

Yeah - definitely have to pull the engine. Harbor Freight had a sale not too long ago for a 2-ton hoist ($120). It makes life so much easier - hell, I can now pull the engine in about 90 minutes from start to finish. Of course, I cheat and leave the tranny/drive shaft attached (hint, get strong wire and you can keep your driveshaft mated without worrying about fluid loss).
