My shop is in a west suburb of Cleveland, about an hour hike from Akron.

What do you need done? A lot of things are DIY-able.

Rotary Technician Needed

Peejay, are you still working on RX7s? I have one that has sat in my garage for nearly five years and needs to be revived. Please get back to me. Thanks

Peejay, I’m in need of a rotary mechanic, live in the greater Cleveland area. You said westside suburb, I’m right by the 480 & 77 intersection. Thanks

If you want to travel West, I'm about 40 minutes West of Cleveland and would be happy to help depending on what you needed.

What City are you in, Elyria/Lorain area? I’m in Independence so am really centrally located. My issue is, about 2 wks ago, I was out running errands, car started fine & was performing as it always did (no issues/problems), I stopped at the atm and when I put it in park, it just died on me. Tried starting it numerous times with no luck, so called for a tow as I was leaving for vacation the next morn at 4am. When I returned from vacation, I tried it a few times & wouldnt start so, I changed my plugs, wires & coils. When I went to change my plugs, I saw my back rotor trailing wire was actually detached from the plug (not sure how long or how that happened), I replaced all those & still no luck starting. I did the deflood process & during that, had gotten it “started” (it was extremely bogged down, barely sounded/felt like it was running) & I had the gas to the floor, since if I let it up, it wanted to cutout. After about 30sec/minute, I released the gas & it shut down & have t gotten it started again (this was all during the last 2 days). Its an 06, with 93k miles, automatic & I have taken care of it, regular maintenance, oil changes every 3k, top off oil in between changes, never saw/felt/heard any issues with it prior to this. Just wanted to give you the basic’s on it. Thanks, I really appreciate your response!

It's an RX-8 then? Well the first thing we need to is deflood again and perform a proper compression test. I have a rotary compression tester and I can do this pretty quickly to make sure we aren't throwing parts at a weak engine. Coils on the 8's love to fail at random times so that was a good move on your part getting new coils. Did you get the Mazda revision C coils and NGK plugs? A compression test is definitely a must as a first step of diag on an RX-8. I have 4 of them, I've been down the same road you're on currently.

Took it for compression test

thanks for getting back to me. I took it for a compression test and the back rotor is gone. So, its rebuild, new engine or sell it (if possible). Hate to ask but, do you know the value if an 06 rx8 Shinka, 91k miles on it, “as is”? I was planning on selling it before this happened, need something better for snow (daughters mom moved her out to the snowbelt, about 1.5 hours away), so I dont think financially, it makes sense for me to dump $ into something I would sell, makes more sense to cut my losses on the price I sell it for. I know parting it out would bring the most in a return but, also know the time that may take. Thanks again, really appreciate your help & time.

that would be a car i would purchase. instead of the normal 500-700 range for a clean car, i would offer up to 1200 for your model, at the moment im 4-6 months away from buying a shinka. just food for thought.

Where are you located?

lastphaseofthis where are you located? Its extremely clean, my mechanic thinks I’m crazy for thinking of selling it & not rebuilding it. Keep me posted, maybe we can work something out?

The Shinka package adds different colored chrome wheels, Alcantara inserts in the seats, leather covered parking brake handle and console lid, standard 6 disc changer, urethane filled front sub frame, and the option of the color Copper Red, which was unique to the Shinka package. The Shinka could also be had in Galaxy Grey, Brilliant Black, and Whitewater Pearl. It's really just a trim level, nothing horribly special. Depending on overall condition, with a bad engine, on the high end you would be looking at a market value of around $1500 for the car, a few hundred less if it has the automatic transmission.
