Restoring Wheels

I was viewing this thread (https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ghlight=Wheels) while i was cleaning up my wheels. Does anybody know where to get automotive clear for restoring wheels? My GSL SE wheel's old clear is pretty much done and I'm gonna strip it off and respray a new layer. So if you know a good brand or any tips, please speak up.

Well I found this http://www.caswellplating.com/buffs/alwheel.htm and this is the clear that they reconmended http://www.caswellplating.com/vht/vhtclear.htm

You can use the VHT clearcoat or automotive clearcoat. Since I have automotive clearcoat left over from over from prior paint jobs, that's what I use. Whatever you do, do not use oven cleaner on aluminum unless it's already corroded. If the part you want to clear is still shiney, wipe down with a degreaser and Prep-Sol. If you do end up wet sanding, make sure you remove any leftover grit or polish, otherwise the clear won't bond for long.

Yeah, the aluminum wheels had patches of corrosion on it. and half of the original coat is gone. Once I grab some clear and finish one wheel I'll take pictures of the clean wheel and a bad one.

Heres a write I did on refurbing my waffles. I just used the duplicolor clear but not the one for wheels because it clouded up a lot. Also, I did use oven cleaner and mag wheel etching to get things really clean but Trochoid is right, you will have to rebuff the surface to get back a mirror finish if you go this route.
