resevoir ?

jeez i think i spelled that right. anyway chasing down a higher than normal temp. problem and noticed a small resevoir on the passengers rear firewall with a hose that looks like its going under the beehive. anyone know what this is and what its for? and what goes in it? looks like coolant but real low. did a search but all i found was the main resevoir. thanks in advance 83 rx7 ltd ed. 12a

pulled the t-stat out and dropped it into water then heated it up. went up to 200-220% and didnt even budge, spring is wore out also. i guess that may be my overheating problem. will flush and put new hoses on after this t-storm passes and a new t-stat. still dont know what that container in the back is for but a hose runs from it back into the motor. anyone have any ideas what this resevoir is? thanks for your help

That would be the reservoir for sub-zero starting fluid. It injects a mix of 90/10 ethylene glycol antifreeze and water into the carb when it's freezing. The pump in mine was trashed so I removed it. Seems to start fine in the winter without it.

man that was quick for answers, replaced t-stat, flushed rad. flushed motor, new fan clutch, but when my choke kicks in after warm up i dont see water flow in the radiator, but when i hit the gas the water sucks down into the radiator. when its sitting there for 8-10 min. the gauge goes to halfway(dont have numbers on my gauge just a "c" and an "h". am going to take it for a drive tomorrow and see if it runs cooler at accel. also i noticed a short hose right above the pass. exhaust one looks like a cooling hose one end is connected to a valve or something and the other end is connected to nothing. did this plu into the cat. that used to be there. thought it went to the heater core but both of those are hooked up. could use a little help on that one also. thanks for the answers , i really appreciate it

yes, just checked it after taking it for a drive.and i do have heat, when i was driving the gauge was showing a hair under halfway and it looked like it would drop down a hair, then back up. before it was going above halfway almost 3/4. i remember the gauge used to be under halfway, is a little under halfway o.k? i live in the south so temps are getting up to 96% - 102%

and the 3rd fan clutch i got this weekend (new) was no good. is there anyway possible i can put a straight fan on instead of the fan clutch? im getting tired of shooting craps at the parts store. if so what kind. appreciate your response. i did a search 2 days ago on the straight fan but now i cant find that old post. thanks

yea i thought of that, have a taurus 3.0 fan and a 3.8 fan,and a 14" imperial electric fan that i ran on my jeep cherokee, just real hot here and lots of gnats, so my motivation is kind of lagging. but will probably just hook it to a manual switch that i can turn it on after i start it.

can you tell me on these 83 fb, limited ed. i have a real "idiot"gauge. it has the "c" and the "h" my needle runs almost halfway, maybe a little under, it varies. this all started right after i changed the oil, put the same oil in as before. but the t-stat was shot.
