Replacing clutch and brake master today...Help
I Am replacing my 1985 RX7 GS 12A 1.1's clutch and brake master cylinder and we just had some questions.
What do we have to worry about the shifter ligaments or something like that?
Do we have to remove the axle to be able to drop a transmission?
I am learning on this adventure and have enough time to fix any mistakes, so if any one has an more advise it would be greatly accepted.

I've been told that if the pilot bearing isn't broke, don't bother to replace it. More of a hazzle then its worth. Mine was destroyed, but I was able to take the engine into a shop and they pulled it out for me.

Always easier with two people. I've done it alone and working the jack with my legs while steadying an guiding the trans into position is not fun. If your trans is dirty now is the time to clean it. Get some aluminum wheel cleaner, a set of wire brush wheels for the drill and degreaser. Mine was a night and day difference. A long hose in a funnel is so far the easiest way to refill the fluid. I've had two different sized hand pumps and they both wore out my hand before being half empty.

the local CARQUEST and Autozone's "loan" a blind hole puller ... works great. They take a deposit on your credit/debit card, if you keep you paid for it if you bring it back they credit it back so the cost is for fuel

I've used a few pullers from the auto stores that never worked right. Never heard of the "blind hole puller" though. Good to know. Might sell my mazda puller now lol
You'll need grease for the bearings. Just a little bit of it.
Sometimes the tranny can be a pain to lineup when reinstalling by yourself. Get 2-3 long bolts with same thread pitch as the tranny to engine bolts. Cut the heads off (now studs) and put them in opposite corners. Line tranny up with those. Bolt it together with the open bolt holes. Take out the now studs and put rest of the bolts in correct place... Make sure studs are long enough so you can take them out. Makes it a little simpler alone.

i've never done a pilot bearing on a 12a/13b but if it's anything like piston motors, here's a little trick: stuff grease or white bread(this is cleaner) through the pilot bearing hole and use a dowel of appropriate size and hammer to keep packing it in until the pilot bearing pops out.
