On a related but slightly other note: bear in mind this is Mazda, the company that championed the rotary and made it succeed at all costs. How's that for swimming upstream?

You mentioned not knowing if someone will pay for live axle/watts linkage. You must have overlooked the part about putting in an IRS (independant rear suspension) Then again cameros and mustangs have solid axles and for some reason people think they're sports cars.

and yeah, I can't believe someone actually successfully sued McDonalds for selling coffee that's hot. What next, a lawsuit against their milkshakes claiming it discriminates against the lactose intolerant?
hehehe!
hey don't give these idiots any ideas ...

yeah ... i didn't overlook the IRS-thing, but i did forget it by the time i wrote whatever it was i wrote.

yeah ... i don't know about the ponycars. 2 of 'em are slated to die soon. the mustang will probably be around for a while longer, though. as far as i'm concerned they stopped being cool since 1971 ... but hey, that's just me!

on an unrelated note ... i love canada, would like to move there sometime. i just can't decide which city.

oh yeah ... and i'm glad mazda kept the baton and ran with it ...
i shudder to think what would have happened if a company like chrysler had decided to renew their rights to the rotary engine .... oooh ... i get chills just typing this in public.

well i did not read all of your
extremely long
way to long
**** that was long posts

so sorry if i hit on past points

first off
its hard enough for me to find one gsl-se in good condition
let alone a bunch

and if you did then they would all be diferent
diferent damage here and there etc...

second
i think something like that rx7 with the porsche parts molded in would be sweet
everyone liked that and it would make it look new

third
i think the engine is a no no
too much money
too little serious buyers

i think the way to go is a custom 13b

now someone said "like yenko"

umm no it wouldnt be

hello a yenko was a stripped down chevy made for nothing but go fast

that has nothing to do with remodling an old car and making it a little quicker with more creature comforts

plus the yenko was a brand new car of its time,
it wasnt meant to be a collector when it came out,
it was made to be a race car

just some things i thought i would point out

I wanna know what FB you're gonna start with. Personally, I think starting with a GS would be best 'cause it's just the basics. After the basics, you add anything and everything you want.

And I suggest replacing as much of the body as possible with fibreglass or something lighter if there is such a thing.

That way you could also add your own little touch to the design, like you said you wanted to make it look a bit more modern. I think that's a GREAT idea.

So... Have you come up with any numbers yet? Mainly, how much a standard new-FB is gonna cost to build?

a gs doesnt not have enough stuff to start with
a gsl would be better then a gs

but lets look at what you get out of a gsl-se over a gsl

better rear end
bigger brakes
bigger sway bars
better bolt pattern
most electronics are installed
gaurenteed power windows mirrors etc..

no something more like a 3rd gen 13bt
which is what mike actually has if your talking about mike p
at least i think

when i say custom something more like single turbo that would be a very nice daily driver
get good gas milage yet still perform well but not so well where it is a super car like mike p's

of course these would be 13b's with no miles
a very quite exhaust
a very smooth engine
very very precise turbo boost
to where it does not come on super strong and doesnt effect daily driving

these are some things that come to mind when you try to resell a classic

no, mike has the cosmo engine, not an rew. putting a flat6 in would be interesting. to bring you up to date dave, the drivetrain would be the rx8 renesis matched 6speed and lsd rear so the model is null and void on that stuff.

by the way, i'm an unemployed industrail engineer so i'll jump in to help with anything. 3d modeling is my specialty, MDT6 the program.

I dunno, I think the Renesis is part of what makes this project new and unique... not to mention more reliable, emissions friendly and fuel efficient than any turbo 13B. Personally I think the Renesis is the ticket.

per engine, perhaps.

Another benefit of buying 100 at a time is suppliers tend to take you seriously, not nudge each other saying "Hey, look what just walked in the door" with their greediest grins.
