Removing the insturment cluster

Another newbie question. I'm trying to remove the insturment cluster. I removed the trim and the top two screws of the cluster, but I think I'm still missing something. Any help? Thanks.

There's two screws underneath the dash, IIRC
They're easy to spot.

Once those are pulled out you'll probably want to disconnect the speedo cable and wiring harnesses before pulling the cluster out.
I had to drop my steering column a bit as well before it would come out.

I didn't have to drop my steering column.. I've done it quite a few times... just make sure the batt is disconnected, put the hazard light switch in the middle. (assuming you have a series 2 81-83)

I guess I'm just missing something or I removed the screws and it’s still stuck.

Engma, I found two screws that hold the top of the cluster to the dash. Are these the ones you are talking about? Is there anything else?

Metallic_rock, do you remember how many screws you ended up removing?

I guess its time to buy a shop manual...

I'm pretty sure there were two that went up into the bottom of the cluster from underneath the dashboard.....
I removed the little plastic air conduit underneath there to get to it easier (it was just one screw to take the air conduit out)

Thanks for the help. I remember seeing that air conduit... I guess I'll take a look at that.

Cool

I got the cluster out today. Removing that air conduit did the trick. It made it a lot easier to find that second set of screws. Thanks for everyone’s help.

I'm going to try to write up a step by step write-up of what I did, since my manual was very lacking in the details. Hopefully it will help some other clueless soul. I'll post a link here when I'm done.

I some how managed to get my cluster out several months ago without removing anything. But getting it back in was all but impossible. I removed the plastic cover around the steering column, and still couldn't get it to slide in. I finally just pulled off the steering wheel and it went it with no problems. I never removed my dash or anything from it aside from the black surround in front of the cluster. It's tight, but do-able.
