rebuilding carb and cleanign intake

hi everyone! im very excited as ive started making my engine bay and engine look a lot better. recently i pulled off the carburetor for a rebuild because of my header problem(cherry red header) and because its old. so when i pulled off the carb i also pulled off the intake manifold. i started cleaning it up but i wanted to ask if i needed the black plastic cap with the 5 vacuum holes in it. heres a pic.

Not only does the phenolic spacer provide vacuum sources, it also has a bridge between the front and rear rotors, and provides a thermal break between the engine heat and fuel in the carb.

If you go with a Weber or Holley, you will need a matching intake for either.

+1

Also it acts as a physical spacer. Without it the carb linkage will bind and the studs are too long to clear the base flange. Basically it wont even bolt on without it.
