Question Rebuild & now now start

85 12a. Rebuilt engine & mild street port. Removed rats nest & blocked off all nipples. Removed air pump & put on a blocking plate on carb & dual pulley to alternator. Engine is getting fuel.
All 4 plugs are sparking good.
Anyone got any suggestions to get my car back on the road, other than the major oil leak I had before, the engine ran strong although a little hard to start ie 3 or 4th start.

Double check all your vacuum blocks. Also you might not have goetten a good rebuild, compression check it.

You sure the dizzy got put back in right after the rebuild? It could be 180 Degrees off.

Just a rule of thumb.... when you do a bunch of mods, do one at a time, then start your car to see how it runs after each mod. If you do 10 mods and have 3 different problems after you start the car, its hard to guess what is wrong.

Sometimes when nothing else wants to work, I pull start the thing. I have had to resort to this once after an engine swap, and once after a carb swap. I do not know why, but it always eventually works when I drag her behind something for a few blocks

A lot of times rebuilds are hard as hell to get started. I'd try a pull start too.

I also just rebuilt mine and had a tough time getting it started, heres what you do. Pour alittle bit of oil down the carb just to build up the compression till it gets started. Its what ive heard alot of people have to do after a rebuild.

Assume you mean MMO or ATF? Compression is around 80-85.

Just to clarify, if the dizzy was in wrong 180 degrees and the ratio of the dizzy to the eccentric shaft is 1:2 then your timing was off 360 degrees....hmmm...

Just pull the fuel pump fuse to shut it down.

You can also pull the connector under the driver's side storage bin to disable the fuel pump. Many people cut the wire and splice in a switch for anti-flood and security purposes.

It will run 180 out. Take a look at the rotor button and cap, they are symmetrical.
