rear sway bar question (pics inside)

So I decide to go ahead and pull it off to see if its the thing causing the knock in my rear end. And i notice both sides are way different one side is all bent and the other side is perfectly straight. It's not susposed to be like that is it?

I don't think it's supposed to be bent like that. When I replaced my stock (84SE) rear bar with the Koni adjustable aftermarket bar, both bars were straight and symmetrical on both ends.

I think your bar got bent at some point and it's been screwing with your rear balance. I'd be surprised if Mazda designed it like that to 'clear' something. There's nothing under the axle!

Does it drive any differently?

They are bent like that! There is a post that was about this a long time ago. I have two bars one off a '79 and one off an '83 and they are identical.

Alright. I tell you what. I don't see why people love taking them off. Personally I think the ride is much worse. It bounces all over the place at high speeds, and the rear has so much more body roll than it did before. Once i get new bushings that thing is going right back in! I highly discourage following the trend to take it off! I run eibachs and tokico HP's and I think its much better with a rear bar.

Its not a trend, its for predictability. You would know this if you paid more attention to the post you read, when you were looking for a trend to try. It is better, if you run road course, or auto-x. As for the sway bar, everyone i've seen has been bent.

Removing the rear sway bar also helps when you are using low profile tyres. Leaving the sway-bar on, the rear will come out much easier than the front, removing it restores the balance.

Well I think the car is compleatly perdictable with it on. I guess it gets down to what kind of driver you are. If you are refering to snap over-stear FB's are known for thats because or watts link bind and the sway bar reduces the chances for the watts link to bind. And i wasn't looking for a trend to follow you ******. Not only can you suck my dick newb, but you can drool over my wins. This car is no show rice bitch so **** you.... So if you would've readmy post you would've seen that it was removed to see if it was what was causing a knock in the rear end.

when you say come out better do you mean the rear loses traction easier compared to the bar being on?

with the bar on the car is more keen to over-stear

sorry i should have explained it better.

Basically by putting on low profile tyres, it is a lot easier to lose traction in the rear because there is no longer as much sideways movement in the tyres for them to keep traction. I'm not sure how much difference it would make with stock wheels/tyres. I'm running 205/40/17"

I found removing the rear anti-sway bar softens up the rear end enough to restore balance tractionwise. Did a fast corner the other night with all 4 wheels sliding and it was just heaven the amount of control and predictability the car had :-)
