Is fuel pump upgrade a must to turbo a 12a?

I am a stubborn guy. All my friends are talking me into getting another car, but being a member here in this community and learned about all those succesful stories, I'd like to give it a shot... it doesn't sound all that hard, but I know it would be 10 times difficult when I actually work on it.

I have read probably all posts about turbo 12a... (a list just like coldy's)

S4 turbo + manfold (already have)
Lock Dizzy -> try myself or rotaryshack
Turbo hat -> rotaryshack (or coldy?)
Boost prep Nikki -> rotaryshack
oil line and fittings -> might have or rotaryshack
Exhaust manifold adapter -> either weld a 12A->13B flange or mod by rotaryshack

Now, people put fuel upgrade on the list too, is that a must? GSLSE pump work? What's about ingnitions too?

What's the cheapest route for best price performance ratio?

Thanks

I don't know anything about a 12a turbo, but I do know that the SE pump was nominal at best. I replaced mine with a 255lph pump and made one hell of a difference. Better response and worse gas milage, but hey, you got to give a little to et a little.

I own 7 gsl-se's. i think the turbos suck. something else to fix is all it is. my best friend has a 93 r-1 twin sequential turbocharged rx-7. i prefer mine. some people like chocolate and some like strawberry. neither are wrong. the best and least expensive upgrade for a first generation rx-7 ??? pull that crappy little 3.90 ring and pinion gear set out of the rear end chunk which takes.. 30 minutes... replace it with 4.44 kit sold at mazdatrix.com for about 350. bucks. if you know how to shift... you'll spin your tires all the way up to 5th. turbos are nice for some cars, but dont forget the novelty of the first generation rx-7... power to weight ratio. swapping out the rear end to that gear set in a what 1200 pound car ? its an eye opener you'll never forget.

1200 hundred lb car huh?

Don't knock a turbo 1st gen until you've been in a properly running one.

There is no substitute. Especially smoking 3rd gens.

I started to want a turbo after the car control clinic. I tried several cars, especially my friend's brand new STi... then started imagining if I had a bit over 200 horse in a 2300 bl car......

Anyways, I am collecting parts for this project, how much does a SE puel pump go? Do I need fpr? What's the minimun thichness of the exhaust adapter? Thanks

The stock fuel pump is good for about 160hp. If you plan to go higher than this. a performance pump is necessary.

1) Can the FC fuel pump be used on our FB with a RPFPR?
2) What are the common setups our Fb people usually use?
3) How much they cost? And where to get them?

Thanks

Hmm, not to disaggree too much but the 160hp limit maybe with a EFI set up. With a carb, the GSL-SE pump will feed your engine without a problem. I have one for sale if interested. You will need a FPR to keep things undercheck.

The problem I ran into was that my FPR was FUBAR. It was new so I first assumed the fuelpump was crapping out on me, course the fuel pump was only 6 monthes old at the time. Went out and spent $$$ for a aftermarket pump and was having the same problem. S.O.B , Got a new FPR and it was all good. Except for one little problem the performance pump pushed a higher volume of fuel though my little return line and the fuel pressure barely goes below 7 psi. The GSL-SE pump was adjustable down to 4 psi without a problem. I believe the SE pump to be a better match for the stock fuel lines. Just need to get off my *** and replace that return line, have all the parts but the couch is soooo comfortable and Jerry Springer is on...

I'm Using mallory right now with no problems, the first one I used was a mallory 4307 it didnt seem to work worth a ****. I believe that there have been two people here that have had problems with the 4309. I had a problem with the 4307. Switched to a 4309 and its been working good. Also price is a big determining factor in this. Aeromotive tends to be more expensive then the mallory. Seems like there is a reason for this (probably product reliability )
