rear hatch shocks

How hard would it be to find a pair of rear hatch shocks for an 80 model?

mazdatrix has the armstrong struts that work very well with the rear wiper. Have them on my -SE

Yes... they're not Rx-7 specific (aside from the models with rear wiper). Everyone from JCWhitney to your local parts place should have 'em ~$12-$20.

Forget about speding all that money! For $10 you could have it fixed and never have to replace them again.

Please fix your car correctly with the proper lift struts. Emergency repairs are one thing, but it's sad to see RX-7s with substandard modifications and "repairs."

I went to the local Advance Auto Parts, and ordered in the strong arm units. I think they were like $12 each. Pop the hatch, raise it about 1/2 way, and it will open the rest of the way by itself. What more could you ask?

Maybe I will go out today and buy some. I am sick of mine falling on my head.

Nah. I don't use it enough for it to matter.

I went out and bought 1 one from Autozone. It was only 7 bucks and it works great! Real easy to install too. I'm thinking about replacing the other because the fluid is coming out of it.

No worries I did that today! The autozone I went to only had one. I went to another one today and got the other shock. Apparently the brand doesn't make them anymore or something and they had to search in the back for them. Still was only $7 while all the others were at least $20.

One thing I couldnt stand was holding the hatch up with my head!!!!!!!!

I think this was my first official repair.

When I went to the parts store, they go 'They dont make these shocks anymore' Im thinking well, figures.

So I bought 2 new ones (that did not have the ball joint in them) for about $35 for both

I had to get my dremel, and cut the old ball screws out of the housing of the old ones, then they snapped right into the new ones. I installed them and end of story

I should start getting my parts elsewhere, because it sounds like Schucks didnt know what they were talking about.

How do you get the little C-shaped pins that are on the glass end of the shocks off? (Hell for that matter how do you get the other ends off?)

You might have to grind that 12mm wrench thinner to fit it in. Sometimes your local bike shop will have a thin 12mm (used for adjustable cones).
