Rear Axle help please - 84 SE

Hey all I bought a rear axle for a 84 GSL-SE and got it in the mail and I have both sides. I need to know how to tell the difference between the 2 cause I need to replace the drivers side one. my rx7 book says there's a difference. anyone have some experence with this?

Thank you!

Matt

If you have drum rear end, replace the whole rear end with what you got! other than that, the drain plug should be on the bottom of the LSD, and when you find that you will know drivers side from passenger.

do you have the same rear? I think the cables are a good way to tell, just jack your car up and lay one enxt to the drivers side, then lay the other one next to it, and compare. thats the only way that comes to my mind.

good luck

Mazdatrix only lists one part number for rear axles on 84-85 -SE's.

There shouldnt be any difference between L+R sides!
If this isnt what your asking please clarify.

The axles are identical, but once you press the bearings on and capture the backing plates to the axle, one becomes left and one becomes right. This is because the backing plates differ. The backing plate should have the cutout to the rear and the brake line support tab to the top.
