RB Oil pressure/temp

alright, just ordered the oil pressure/temperature adapter (Type one) for 71-79 RX7s. How do I get it to send the readings to gauges on the A pillar? I want to have mechanical dial type gauges, not electronic digits,if that means anything.

Help plz/thx!

go to advance or autozone and get the hose kit. it comes with the flare fittings plastic hose, and adapters, you put one end of the hose in the gauge and one in the adapter manifold. the kit comes with directions and everything you need. they make it with metal line for durablitly but if your running it through a lot of places the flex plastic hose the way to go.

the plastic is what i have and its held up for a couple yrs

would the RB oil temp/pressure run mechanical or electrical gauges? I just got an email saying the gauge pods were cut for 2 1/16 gauges.

they run mechanical gauges, or atleast that is what i have. the holes in the adapter get fittings and the plastic hose run up to the back of the gauge. there is actual oil at the gauge makeing them mech. thats what it did. still not gotten a oil temp yet, i just plugged that off for now.

yeah ill be the sat

so there will be oil running to the gauge itself? would that mean I have to "overfill" on fill ups?

Yeah the RESpeed ones are nice too.

On gauges I have the electrical ones. I wouldn't feel safe running plastic tubes that are filled with oil inside the car. Especially if you are planning to put them on a pillar pod. The sending units you can just screw on to the oil filter adapter.

I can run dial gauges that are electrical? I hate the look of digital gauges.

When they say elec. or mech gauge, they are referring to the gauge sender itself being mechanical or electrical. The gauge for a mech. or elec. will look identical.
The mechanical gauge has a fitting of some kind on the back to which you would hook a plastic line for oil temp, oil pressure, or a copper coiled wire for water temp. As Kim mentioned, with a mech. gauge, you have hot engine oil inside your car running through the tubing to the gauge itself. Not the best in my opinion.
An elec. gauge on the other hand has an elec. sender for oil temp, oil pressure, etc. Then just just hook a wire to the sender, run it to the back of the gauge, and voila!! Simpler to hook up, much less bulk to run inside your gauge pod, safer, blah blah blah blah.

There is nothing wrong with mechanical oil pressure gauge. It is more accurate than the electrical ones. I have been running mechanical for 20 years with no issues. Lock tite the fiting and every 3 years, I always replace the plastic lines. Its only less than $5.

I'll say one thing having just done this (autometer mech oil pres and temp on rb type II adapter) That temp fitting is huge, and a pain to get through the firewall...

There is a really big grommet that a big hunk of wires go through the firewall, I just tapped into that a bit (or I should say my buddy did).
