RB Mufflers compared with Saber?

Good day. I am in the market for a new muffler for my '84 GSL w/ an '88 street-port 13B. It currently has the RB header, a 2.5" Saber presilencer, then 3" pipe to a 3" straight-through Saber muffler. Everything's all stainless after the header.

I am very pleased with the quality and construction of the Saber parts, and I'm also very happy with the service I've had from them. But the 3" exhaust is stupid overkill for an NA setup (the plan at the time was to add a turbo within a year, so the 3" system was built in anticipation of that). It's just way too loud, which makes the car a pain to drive and impossible to sell.

I searched here and found lots of endorsements for the RB mufflers - saying that they're nice and quiet while still offering good flow. I just called RB for info, and they said that their power pulse muffler is a 2" straight-through design.

What I'm wondering is if anyone has some experience with Saber and the RB products and can give me some insight about the sounds of both. If the RB solution is just a 2" straight-through, then why wouldn't I order a 2" straight-through type from Saber, given that they're local to me, and I'm very pleased with their product.

Of course, if the RB is actually quieter, I'll go for it in a second.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Phil.

I've never heard a Saber muffler, let alone on a rotary. I have heard the RB system however, and under light throttle and cruise, it's as quiet as stock. Under acceleration, the tone is low and deep (for a rotary) and not particularly loud, certainly much quieter than your average fart can.

RB mufflers are tough as nails and produce a great low rumble. You would never know your motor was streetported unless you really mash it.

the racing beat primaflow muffler is so good that you dont need presilencers. has anyone here ever started their car with only the RB center section and no rear muffler? still loud as if it was straight outta the header.
I could not believe it, so that lead me to believe that its the primaflow that is doing 95% of the muffling. Well I tested my theory on my little bro's '83, straight pipe to the primaflow and it sounds SWEET, as sweet as my full RB system on my '85. Moral of the story, Its all about the primaflow!

The Primaflow muffler has a single chamber to the dual outlets.. not straight through, which is why it is alot quieter than a fart canister. Any straight muffler will actually flow better than the RB one..if you dont mind the noise
When asking about RB products ask for any of the Jim's there and not a salesguy

Thanks. I didn't know what would be right - here, or the 2nd gen forum (since it is an S4 motor), or in the Cdn forum. Or General Rotary Tech. Thanks for showing a newbie the way.
