Guaging interest: Carbon Fiber Hood
Guaging interest: Carbon Fiber Hood
For those of you interested, my friend is looking hard into this, gonna try to convince his crew that it's a worth-it item (easy to do) and get back to me with exact details.
The design, as it sits, is an exact copy of the stock FB hood. If the people paying up front decide they want a scoop or reverse cowl or something it'll be considered when being designed.
Est. price is going to be around $600. This is subject to change, I'm trying to be a bit genorous with the price as I don't want to underprice him.
The biggest issue here, however, is that no fewer than 5 people, with payment in full up front, will be needed to get the project started. The more people paying up front the cheaper the hoods will be all around.
Please, members who are seriously interested only.

As far as baked, I dunno much about CF but I'm going to assume it is, this is top quality stuff he deals in. Not your typical Ebay crap.
It's US$...but keep in mind that price is not set, looking at his other products that's the general idea I'm thinking, though. He'll let me know exactly tomorrow.

They're already being made, but they don't sell well. Things to overcome are
(a)mounting points - a good hood will need to anchor well and still be easy to open
(b)Temperature - our engine bays get HOT
(c) buyer reluctance - a hood costing hundreds of dollars is a tough sell to a crowd who paid that much for their entire car.

Carbon fiber body bars is for race cars, or rice cars... although very light, its expense makes it late-on-the-list of ways-to-lighten, so only racers who've done most everything else in very competitive circles will resort to carbon fiber. Those that do, don't really care about looks that much (1st7Heaven's hood is a good example of carbon parts purely made to be light). Ricers just oogle over the look of carbon fiber, and since they're all about looks...
Lets see, $600 for 12-15 lbs. Thats $40-$50 a pound. Sheesh, calling Jenny Craig would be cheaper, and would make you more attractive than even a fiber hood could

1st7heavens is nice for a racecar, but for a streetcar you really need the full monty. His will flex too much and ****. If this is an EXACT duplicate of the stock hood, including the underside re-inforcement, mounting etc, then it would be a winner. Just my $0.02
Yes, these hoods would include underside reinforcement as well. They can be an exact duplicate of the stock hood OR a design can be decided onvented style hood or something.
