Nope, the header is longer than the exhaust manifold.

With my Pacesetter Headers, I drove my seven up to the muffler shop with JUST the headers on. Yes, this was ear-bleeding L O U D!!! However, since I did it that way they had no problem cutting the flange of the end of the header and welding a 2-1/2" pipe back to my muffler. I think they only charged me like $40.00 for the job.

Otherwise, they refuse to remove the CAT and replace it with pipe since that is not emissions legal. Since I had already removed it myself, they considered themselves "not liable" and happily welded me up a pipe to fit.

If you plan on doing this, call the muffler shop first before driving up there with just headers...

Thanks,

Well, folks on here claim that the Headers is like the very 1st thing you should do to improve your stock rotary. After it was too late, I found out that the Racing Beat header is better designed than the Pacesetter header (from Victoria British). Nevertheless, I could definitely feel the "claimed" extra 10HP from the headers that V.B. suggests. The RB header will probably get even better than that. +15 maybe??

Now, I installed a Pacesetter free-flow exhaust at the same time though. The free exhaust is a "claimed" extra 5HP, so with headers I supposedly got 15 more horses. And yes, it feels like 15 more horses.

Oh yeah, I think the motor revs quicker and throttle response was improved too. Simply my opion though.

Hmmm, why didn't you just go to RB and buy the RoadRace Flange and gasket. That would have been alot easier in my opinion, then you would have the ability to actually seperate the sections not have to cut them.

i think itll be fun to just install a header and a 90* bend to kick the exhaust out behind the passenger wheel, that would really **** off passing motorists... plus make'em deaf.. im a bastard.

I'm with Gavin. Why let the shop cut your headers, when they should have just made a connecting pipe with its own flange? That might be just me though. It would really bother me to let someone hack into my RB exhaust after paying $800 for it =p.

On my headers, it's a 2 piece setup. The headers, and then there is a collector at the end. They cut and welded to the collector. I can still just unbolt the collector from the header. No big deal really.

Thats what I did, just gotta get the headder installed and head to the muffler shop.

The loose flange will hopefully make the install cleaner.

I want a flange at the muffler too so the centre section can be removed and replaced easaly.

EVIL MOTOR- did you buy the header specifically made for the '79-'80 model or just any "random" RB header? If you got the one specifically built for the 79-80 then it should bolt right into place and match up perfectly to the factory heat exchanger. I put one on my 79 in like March and had no problem getting it to fit to the stock system. When you do install it, go ahead and remove the little pipe that runs parallel to the exhaust system. I didnt remove mine when I installed my header and it made the muffler hang kind of crooked. Also there is a special swivel head socket you will want to have before you start your install or you will never get the thermal reactor off.
