Rats nest removal question

Can i remove the rats nest and keep the air pump on? I couldnt find any tutorials on removing the rats nest without also taking the air pump off. any tutorials?

Sure why not?
Just unhook everything and leave the belt on the air pump. I've seen a number of posts stating the air pump does not rob any significant HP, and in fact can save your water pump (don't now if this is true...just what other have said). With that being said, if you're removing everything else....why not just remove the AP too?

Yes; it is valuable as an "idler" pulley to balance the one-sided pull from the alt & prevent water-pump slipping that can happen with a single belt drive.

You could even consider "gutting" it by taking the compression vanes out, if you were really worried about drag on the engine.

water pumps are cheap. HP costs money plus just think Power to weight ratio less weight more power!

i dont have emission and i have my air pump hooked up. don tflame me guys i put it on thinking that was gonna fix a problem i had, it didnt so i just left it on because i was lazy. lol
