Rats Nest Differences?

I picked up this rats nest http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...BSAA%3AUS%3A11 since mine looked like it was missing the last solenoid on the left. The orange plug was just hanging there:

I thought it was just missing that one solenoid but the new one I got has a total of 6.

So i was wondering if I'm supposed to have 6 or 5 solenoids on my '81 gs? Should I just pull off the orange one and hook it up ? If i replace the whole thing I dont see what to plug into the one remaining one...

I'd follow the rats nest removal tutorial and get rid of the works. Really cleans things up and doesn't hurt performance a bit.

My 83 S only has 5. I say just hook up the orange one and you'll be good. I broke my A/C solenoid and I bought a whole new rats nest from a forum member and just switched the solenoid. It made a pretty decent difference

The 79 and 80 cars had two or three solenoids, depending on if they were California emissions or 49-state Federal. The 81-82 cars had five solenoids and the '83 and up had six.

If I were you, I'd just pull one of the solenoids off the rack you just purchased and install it on your rats nest. Do you need to pass smog or something?

If not, pull that **** altogether.

Errr, no there isn't. I've got an '83 and a '79 manual...

Looks like there is one loose hose. I'd hook that up to the solenoid and cross my fingers.

Wouldnt be interest in selling one of those white ones would you? I need one for my AC?

Which brings me to another question, Does it really matter which solenoid as long as its hooked up to the right color plug?

Sure I could get you one of those...after I figure out how to hook all these up. Still trying to find a picture of how 5 are supposed to be hooked up. That loose hose coming from the far left solenoid back was hooked up to a cruise control unit which looked like it had been added on, so I want to make sure nothing else has been changed.

On the under side of my hood, there is a sticker of how the rats nest is connected, do you not have one,

I had six solenoids in my 83 and it was a cali model.

No i dont have the sticker..
I'm thinking it should be like this:

With the red line being another vacuum line.

before I hook up that red line I just wanted to make sure I can just yank off the stopper (yellow arrow). Do you know if its ok to just pull it off?

Thanks

I know that looks right, but from what I can see in the ones with 6 the first one has a stopper on the back of it, but then again, it doesnt have the lil nipple coming up?

where does the nipple lead too?

The one circled in yellow? It used to go to the cruise control unit. I think thats why the solenoid was removed in the first place, to install the cruise control. I just took it out so now it goes nowhere.

I wouldn't yank off the stopper. One of the middle units from the rats nest you purchased should fit and have all the vacuum nipples you need without breaking anything...
