Rat nest gasket metal thingy

Okay, in the rats nest removal, you need to make a blocking plate when you remove the air pump thingy.

It says to use the gasket from that 'thingy.'

My problem? The gasket is TRASHED on that, um, thingy. Can anyone upload a template or something for me?

Thanks

I believe that "thingy" you are refering to is the Air Control Valve (ACV)

if this is the case, you could buy the block off plate you need from Mazdatrix or a couple other sources...

IF you want to make your own plate, clean/scrap off the old gasket so you are down to bare metal on the ACV..

Color the whole flange area really well with a magic marker and stamp it onto a piece of paper. trace the outside of it, and there is your template.

I typically use old licence plates for my block off plates, because they are way lighter than the ones you buy. This excludes the EGR and cat-pipe where i use 1/8 or 3/16" aluminum stock.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

I have not read the forums colaboration on the rats nest removal. (prolly because i was one that helped right it years ago) but is there a note in it for timing/vaccum advance???

The best advice i can give is use very high gauge metal... I made 2 that were far too thin and they just let the air blow out there and cause some problems... In the picture i attached is the racing beat block off plate that i recieved with my RB header. Very thick and sturdy, for making your own it may be the easiest to take the intake manifold right off of the engine and at the same time replace your intake gasket and your 2 coolant o-rings. Then it is much easier to trace the shape.

I make my own block off plates out of 1/4" aluminum. Use the ACV you took off for a pattern for the plate. You can buy sheet gasket in rolls at the parts store.

When I'm ready for assembly, i spray brake pad shim adhesive on the plate, stick the gasket material on, then trim to fit.

Okay, now I'm confused. I don't have to make a blocking plate at all?

This should have been done ages ago

If you are refering the the stuff in a tube, yes it works. I don't use sealers unless I really need too, much neater job when the sealant isn't oozing out everywhere.

I used some gasket sealer and it all blew apart and was hard to get off thats why I personally wouldnt really recommend it but it seems to work for others...

What I did was just make a plate out of Aluminum street sign matterial, and use the Red RTV gasket stuff... Works great, and it's cheap as hell.
