Random 1st Gen Fact...?
Random 1st Gen Fact...?
Well if you know any random facts of the 1st Gen that probably many others wouldn't know of, list them.. In my opinion, it would be an interesting read once we get it going...
During my economy class, I discovered the amount of inflation from 1979 (since I own a 79' GS) to 2006. It came to be that for every $1,000 in 1979 would equal to about $2,770 in 2006. Recalling from a 1st Gen commercial, they cost about $15,000 at the time, thus meaning that if you were to have bough them today it would be a wapping $41,550. Crazy huh?!

Maybe the GSL-SE was $15k... but that was 1985, not 1979.

The shutter valve was designed to increase fuel economy by 4% during engine deceleration. Don't know how well known it is but it's the first thing that popped into my head.
Blue SAs are rare?
Ray gots himself a blue SA. Non-sunroof, too. Rust free. Too bad he has to drive it in the snow because the winter car got curbed... fortunately that's fixed now so the SA can get parked for the winter.

The 1st Generation RX7 actually won the outright Australian Touring Car Championship in 1983 beating a turbo Bluebird (pre GTR model) and third was a Holden Commodore, further the RX7 came third in 82 and 84 , These cars were Goup C class which was changed to International group A in 1985 thereby making the RX7 inelligiable.

When adding them all up, all rotors in all rotary engines have rotated a total of 89324098569800324095858484382723849738274897858598 44389709382450932498057895343829324782473892437894 4983889789664589734783457894 revolutions. As of right now.
SA fun facts:
-all late model SAs (80, don't know from what SN) are prewired for electric mirrors on main harness (not the doors though). To check yours, pull a door mirror - if there is a hole in the door for the electric connection, your prewired...
-japanese home market SAs came with an overhead console (exception: sunroof models)
-japanese home market SAs came with rear wiper in special edition late production models
-likewise power windows
-japanese SAs had their antenna in the windshield - power ant sw was blanked off
-japanese SAs only had one "SavannaRX7" fender badge - on the passenger side

Noone really knows what the 'x' stands for. Some at Mazda have said it was eXperiment as the 'X' in x-605 stood for, but others at Mazda have said it stood for eXport. We all know what the 'R' stood for.
There was no Corvette for 1983. The design for the C4 was held up because Chevy and NSU were building a midengine 4 rotor C4. After the gas crisus and emissions standards changed Chevy canned the project and ended up designing the C4 we know today. This was the major cause of the delay in design and release of the 1984 C4 Corvette.

Rotary 13B engines were installed into the Australia Holden Kingwood sedan body and sold to Japan as a Roadpacer, and into a bus to create the Parkway.

I've posted a lot of info about a strange J-spec 13B. Its features cause me to believe it was either in a Roadpacer or a Parkway between '75-'77 as it shares some features with US-spec '76-'77, and there is always a little overlap. Not SA related, but darn interesting.

To add to the odd facts, Japan has stricter emissions than the US standards, yet almost every hp quote I've seen for the JDM versions are higher than the US ones.
The USDM 12A is one of the very few rotary engines that produces more torque than hp, 101hp, 105tq.
