Radio not working.

Just acquired a nice garage kept ‘85 GS (only 35k miles) yesterday. The antenna goes up, radio lights come on... but no sound. I haven’t tried a cassette yet. Is there another fuse I need to check? Or is this thing just done?

The antenna was working when I purchased the about a week after purchasing it it stopped going up and down. A relay under the dash (driver side, near the steering column) clicks when I press the power button on the radio. It's getting 12 volts. Also, there is 12V at the back of the radio (the plug that goes into the back of the radio).

Where is the second fuse for the radio?.. I've read that there are two fuses for the radio.. But there is only the one 20A fuse on the driver side fuse panel.

If I pull the radio out is there another way to test it by putting direct power to it? Any ideas on what might be bad INSIDE the radio? I'd really like to keep the stock radio if at all possible.

The shop manuals are available at Foxed.ca including all wiring diagrams and pin-outs for the radio. Depending on which trim model you have, there may be Clarion brand amplifiers behind the seats inside the storage bins (underneath the bins). I would start by removing the radio and testing it on a bench. It also has a fuse inside the main unit that may have blown. That could be your issue if the unit doesn't power up at all.

Just be careful and don't pull on anything until you are sure you have all the screws out. To get the radio out you'll have to remove the HVAC ***** because they have nuts on them holding it in place. If you grab the center console bezel without removing them, you're going to crack it in half.

I pulled the radio out and bench tested it, nothing. I opened the radio and found a 3 amp tube fuse that appears to be ok.
I noticed that with the stereo plugged into the car when I press the power button on the radio the the eq lights blink on and off once... like it's getting a blip of power as the button is pressed. The relay under the driver side panel still clicks (twice) when I press the power button. I assume there's something wrong inside the radio... any ideas? As I originally posted...the antenna was going up and down for the first week I had the car... now it doesn't. Could it be a bad connection or ground somewhere?
