Rack and Pinion swap from an FC?

What do I need? What mods need to be made?

I tried searching the threads but couldn't find what I need.

There are different ways to approach it, but here's generally how I did it (I say generally because I've made some changes since then, but most is similar)

It's not the rack so much as it is everything related to the front end that isn't the shell. Subframe, control arms, struts, everything. Engine too, or at least I have not seen a good way of reconciling the front cover mount with the rack. Which, really, is why Mazda moved the motor mounts to the intermediate housing, that way it is out of the way of the rack.

Well, I THINK I have a way of doing it, but it involves finding an SA transmission and doing a LOT of engine setback.

Not so much as you'd think. And, I think that if I went to a remote oil filter and moved the alternator to the side so I could flip my Holley around so the throttle linkage is on the front side, it won't need any tweaking at all besides moving where the heater hoses go through the firewall.

Of course, the driveshaft would have to be shorter, but it LOOKS like an FC driveshaft is almost exactly the right length.

Hmm, the T5 shifter is in roughly the same place as the SA's shifter, and putting the T5 in will require a new driveshaft anyway. I may do this. It will be easier than yanking the S3 dash and installing an S1 dash, which is what I was planning to use as a fix.

the published reason was some kind of resonance, but i think you're correct. the FD moves back, but it has the power plant frame, so the engine/trans/ppf need to be in balance, so it doesn't load the differential bushings.

its like balancing a spoon on the edge of a glass
