CA rack and pinion info

is CP racing dead and gone?
is there a cheaper solution than the $2000 "re-speed" setup?
dont wanna pay $1000 for the crappy ball-joint steering box from mazdatrix

any thoughts?

mine is F*CKED...

cheers,
K.

The Respeed kit is $2k? I could've sworn it was $1k then an addition $300 for the rack. and then maybe another $100 for an alignment. That's a substantial $600 less that what you've listed.

Its $1000 for the re-speed setup, and yes CP has been gone for about 5 years. The re-speed kit is top notch, you won't be disappointed.

If another newbie asks if CP racing is still around again I'm going to personally go over their house and shoot them in the foot!

I'm surprised they have even heard of that company its been forever since they sold anything. lol
Go to re-speed.com, the rack and pinion kit is $825 and its about $250 for the rack itself, not a bad price considering it replaced nearly the whole front end of the car....

definitely go with the respeed rack... its not that expensive! if you count all the parts you would have to replace to bring your steering close to the R&P its not a whole lot cheaper

You should be happy that CP is no longer around. There were a lot of complaints associated with their R&P system, and their customer service was atrocious.

Respeed has excellent products, and the best customer service that you will find anywhere.

Couldn't agree more, I have a couple cp racing products and they are terrible (only the strut tower bar was worth getting...). Respeed offers some of the best made aftermarket parts for these cars, amazing fitment, great customer support from Billy. Basically even if CP was still around, I would spend the money on the Respeed setup you will be much happier.

Exactly. When CP was around, people only bought from them because they were the only option at the time for some of their items. You were lucky if you got your part within a reasonable amount of time (many waited months to get parts) and when you did get your part, it usually didn't fit at all. Luckily, I stayed away from them and I am glad I did. Now that we have re-speed, there is no reason to consider other options. Even if you found a used CP kit, it still won't come close to matching the quality of Billy's setup.

You will be happy with whatever you get from Billy. All top notch stuff. Get your R&P setup from him and don't look back. If you replaced the stock box, tie rods, pitman, etc., you will end up spending as much or more than the re-speed R&P kit.

Yup +1 for Respeed

-1 for CP, i was one of the many many people ripped off, i'll never see my 400 bucks ever again.

On a lighter note, since im doing another motor swap in my FB, i think i can now run the Respeed Rack and Pinion (you have no idea how happy it makes me to get rid of the saginaw box)

CP racing was rubbish. Looked like something a drunk hick built in a shed. Respeed's rack is top notch and a great improvement. I love mine.

Re-speeds rack is awesome, I have their widebody car and love it. The way the rack is constructed it also made it incredibly easy for me to switch from the carb'd 12a to a blown 13b. Additionally Billys customer service is outstanding, you are not only a customer but a friend.

+1 for respeed

Billy let me drive the widebody once, that is an amazing machine. Makes me REALLY want the Respeed R&P, the thing drove like/or better than the Lotus Elise I have also driven.

Billy knows his front ends, and he's not prejudice. Here he is REMOVING a USED front end (all steering components including strut assemblies) from Chris' car and then REINSTALLING all the parts in the White One, all in the same day!

And that was in between a complete motor swap between the two cars.

I'd buy an R&P from respeed in a minute and will as soon as my current boxes get sloppy.

I'm still trying to figure out how he found time to work on Geraldo's car, looks like he's messing with the steering box on that one too.

Did I mention this was all volunteer work? Just a few days ago, last Saturday.

CA maybe newb to the rx7 world...

so...

maybe I'm new tho the world of rx7's, maybe I'm new to this site.
but, i am not new to cars, or to forums.

1) i ask an honest and innocent question.
2) i get lots of detailed and seemingly informed advice from board users
3) i get yet another d*ck comment from the "senior site moderator".

i mean seriously, if this is not the place to ask these questions, then where is?
did i do something wrong here by asking these questions?
WTF?!?

isn't a site moderator supposed to be the one stopping the ignorant people from making such comments?

this site has been such a great help and influence to my recent obsession with the rotary engine. my progress and subsequent engine build would not have happened without all of your support.

this is like the second or third time you (rx7doctor) have given me some kind of demeaning and rude response to a simple question.

thanks and cheers to everyone else with their CONSTRUCTIVE responses.

cheers,
K.

The price for the Mazdatrix box is $570. I bought one many years ago, and they had upgraded the gears by hardening them. The result is reduced wear and less backlash. I only adjusted it once -- a few miles after installing it. 80K miles later, the steering's still tight.

I imagine the Re-Speed setup is awesome, but a good OEM box that's properly adjusted isn't half bad. I'd check with Mazdatrix to see if the boxes they're selling have the hardened gears. If so, keep that as an option if you're tight on cash.

Yes. You asked a question about a company that has had a bad rap on these forums for years, and you didn't bother searching for them, just for rack and pinion information. His job is to stop ignorant people from making comments and asking stupid questions. Anything regarding the "quality" or "availability" of CP Racing products is a stupid question.
