When I bought my car, the seats were in very bad condition. I had to buy some seat covers. Now I'm thinking about getting new seats. I've found some affordable racing seats on eBay with universal brackets but am not sure if the seats will fit in the car. Anybody know of any if these seats would fit?

My fear is that they wouldn't fit because couldn't be closed or something. I've an FD owner buy aftermarket seats and cut part of the side off so he could get the door to close properly.

 

seats look good, don't c y ther wouldn't fit.

 

Measure the availible width in the car. It says theyre 21" wide at the bottom, and 23" wide at the shoulders. Id be more concerened with the bottom as the tunnel will limit how wide a seat will fit.

 

just get off your butt and take soem measurements.

 

The floor on my car is not flat and i had a lot of problems getting aftermarket seats to go in.

Be prepared to go through some problems (right side) when you install them.

It may however only be a problem with the SA. Don't know.

 

It took hours and hours to get mine in and when it was all done they still didnt fit right and I hated it. For all the money and trouble - I wish I could have gone back and just recovered my stock ones, just some advice

 

Racing seats suck for every day driving the bolsters aer very rigid and sliding in an out day after day will take a toll on your ***** I recovered mine car is clean and comfy My Tue sents worf

 

you can get Mazdaspeed branded seats on ebay for like 400 a pair shipped.

I plan to get those.

I took my old seats out and I dont see why it would be so hard to mount the new ones.

 

I have some Momo Acropolis XL seats in my '84 GSL-SE, and they barely fit. I'm 6' 1" tall, and 215 lbs, and the seats fit me like a glove. Every other Momo seat I tried was too small. The point here is that racing seats are very difficult to size unless you sit in them first, so that should be the first step. Once you've found a seat that fits, then I would start measuring to see if they fit in the car. If the seat doesn't fit you, it won't matter if it fits in the car or not -- you'll be uncomfortable and unhappy.

As far as fitting the seats in the car -- get seats that allow for bottom as well as side mounting, if possible. On the driver side, I used the side mounts with brackets and mounted directly to the floorpan. On the passenger side, I used the side mounts with bracket on the outboard side, and the bottom mounts through the floorpan on the inboard side.

In my case, because I have a fairly tall sitting height, my car has a sunroof, and I need to be able to drive it with my helmet on, I had to mount the seats low. If your needs are different, you may be able to bolt to the stock locations (much easier) and use tracks (more convenient and adjustable). Contact Sparco USA for the adapter brackets.

One last concern is that if you have seats with aggressive thigh bolsters, you'll need to watch the clearance between the bolsters and your steering wheel. If my seat were much higher in car, I think I'd want a removable steering wheel for easier ingress.

 

those are the same mesurments as the seats i ordered and they come in today...but as long as u get the bottom "flares" to sit under the door arm rest ur all good


im weldin in custom brackets just for a more sturdy setup..but bolting them into the stock monts if possible will work just as good

 

I have a cobra nonadjutable in my car, for the bracket, I welded flat steel onto the stock bracket, then drilled holes in the new steel. The seta was narrower than the factory seat.

 

i use a five gallon buckets turned upside down with a pillow on top for padding

This thread is really useful for me because my mom has offered to buy me new seats + 4/5 point belts, seeing as how the car lacks air bags.

 

Get some pics if you can and your opinions. The level of comfort doesn't matter, imo the car is already rigid and poses a rough ride already. Some people may say I'm adding to it but I just want new seats. Thanks for the responses.
