Hey I just got this rx7 from a older dude and he look like he put alot of work into it, Anyhow I notice he change the white gauges to orange gauge {whole clock assembly} and the old white gauge {whole clock}does not come with oil pressure gauge it had an anaolg clock instead, when at idle or I rev the motor the oil pressure gauge does not move at all it stay's at 0 psi? Now does the 80 has an oil pressure switch? And where is it located? Also I my oil light comes on and stays on all the time? Is it the oil level sensor bad? Thanks, khris

 

the '80 does not have a gauge or a switch, it has NOTHING, just a light that lets you know you have no oil in the sump. Without swapping in a later engine, you can't use the factory oil gauges in the later cars. The '80 engine has no place to put a sending unit.

In the Haynes manual (rebuild section) it show you the location to check oil pressure after a rebuild, but one could permantly attach a guage to this location, I assume.

 

You're better off getting a separate oil gauge and side pod for it. Use the RB adaptor and an electrical sender type oil gauge...

 

I drilled out the inside of a banjo bolt for a mechanical aftermarket oil pressure guage. This is the bolt that holds the oil line onto the rear housing down near the oil pan. The engine most likely has an '80 rear housing according to you guys. It previously had an FB sending unit attached to the banjo bolt, but my friend wanted to use an aftermarket guage. It turned out really great and I got to keep the banjo bolt with the FB sending unit in it.
