Question regarding charcoal canister

So I'm aware MOST first-gen rx-7's have a charcoal canister to absorb gasoline fumes. My rx-7 has no such device but rather has a charcoal chamber built into my air filter cap ( this is 100% stock) . My issue is, my car got emissions to delete when I had my engine rebuilt ( for legal purposes, my car is a "track car" ) and no longer has an air pump. My car lid plugged into my air pump. I only ask because I can smell gas fumes when driving at all times since that tube is open. Is there anywhere I can plug this in to create a vacuum while driving ( eg one of the many carburetors plugs that no longer function ) , should I try to adapt a traditional charcoal canister into my car OR just close the capped pipe altogether? ( also my car still has a flooding issue, I'm assuming this is not the cause )

the 79-80 cars have the canister built into the lid like that. the hose is supposed to go to the gas tank, it takes the fumes from the tank and stores them until the engine is running

I used a canister from a later car to capture the fumes and currently have the Can to Carb line ran to manifold vacuum.. I'm now understanding that is incorrect so I'll run it to the filter area instead

the later cars have one line going from the gas tank vent to the canister and the second line goes to the purge valve, which then goes to the engine.

I'll try to get a picture later, I'll probably forget though. My setup (probably not correct but it's what I gathered from various sources) Starting from the fuel tank vent line on the firewall and ending at the carb.

1. Hard tank vent line.
To
2. Upper or lower oil fill nipple
Then
3. Upper or lower oil fill nipple
To
4. Charcoal canister (canister has two lines (remember I harvested mine (lucky from another rx7 but before I had one with a third line for purge))
Then
5. Charcoal canister
To
6. Carb. (probably should be to the filter portion but I'm currently going to manifold.)

That'll be 3 hoses total. One between 1 and 2, another between 3 and 4, and finally 5 and 6.

At least I think that's what you were asking. If not, I'm sorry I misunderstood.

I also don't have an air pump but I believe the air pump is only used for the cat. Which I know series 1 cars do not have, so I think it went into the thermal header deal (technical term). But I'm not sure. Probably would be best served looking at a few FSMs and perhaps comparing other builds.

Would there be any negative consequences to me putting a normal lid on the car?

I'd recommend making the one with the vapor recovery system work.

nope. the tank needs to be vented somewhere, and the charcoal canister is nice because it removes the unburned gas smell
