question about flywheel
question about flywheel
Ok I have been thinking of going with a light weight flywheel. I have the counter weight for either 12A. My question are you running 1? If so from where? I have been looking a tweakit's and extream rotary's and of course bacing beat. I am goning to be using them on an 85 12A that way I can use it if I swich to a 4 port 13B using SE parts. I hope I am giving you enough info to get good reply's. Thanks Nick
The S3 12A and 13B will take the same size flywheel, the difference will be in the front and rear counterweight. Both run a 225 mm flywheel. Check RBs website to see if there will be a conflict as the flys do have a different weight betwen the 2. Google Fidenza flys as I think that is the one RB uses. Make sure you buy one that has a replaceable wear surface. I do believe that both lightweight flys are the same weight, it's the counterweight that balances it all out.
i have the Racing Beat unit
Trochoid, isn't it just the aluminum one that has the replaceable surface? yes, i believe i read that it is Fidanza that makes the lightweight flywheels for RB, but i'm not sure about the aluminum one though.

OK yea racing beat only list the kit on the site which has different model # but I am sure that is because the counter weights are different. Some of the other site list a flywheel alone is good for S1-S5 not really sure about that that is why I am asking questions. Also the tweakit kit doesn t come with gear ring its extra for that.

From what I have "heard" the ring gear is a Pain in the A$$ to get off.Timing consumming and all that Jazz. The Flywheel is the same on Applications, and the Counterweight is the difference. But the Flywheels are Different between Turbo and N/A.Racing Beat Flywheels include the Counterweight(in the price),but most of the other makes.like Exedy,Act,Tweakit, you have to Get the appropriate Counterweight for your engine.(extra Cost).
OK here is a question on some site it says 83-91 12A and 13B and some dont . Found one for a 86-91 will it work aslong as I have the right counter weight?
I already have the counter weight I got off an 85 gs I parted out. I also have a counter weight off my 80.

Tweakit is an Aussie company, have fun with shipping costs. Not including a ring gear is simply a marketing ploy for more money, imho.
Yes, I believe it's only the aluminum fly that has the wear disc. As far as listing the same fly for S1 to S5, the early ones take a 215 mm clutch and pp, after that all NA flys are 225 mm.

If the flywheel you get isn't counter-balanced, or doesn't come with a counter-weight, you typically need a counter-weight off of an automatic car. The reason is if you look at a stock flywhell, there is either added or removed weight from one area, aftermarket flywheels are usually totally symmetrical, which, so is a torque converter and the disc that the ring gear is on with an auto. Just trying to save you a little money if you have access to one.

I have said it many times in this post. YES I HAVE THE REAR COUNTER WEIGHT OFF AN AUTO. That why I am looking for for just a fly wheel and wanna make sure i under stand everthing. Like I said Different sites say different things. After looking in to a little more I think I have found the answer. 83-91 non turbo flywheel.
