Question about FC oil cooler

hey all
i gave up searching, so i'm just gonna ask, how do you know if an fc oil cooler is any good? i'm on the verge of installing mine, finally got the lines made, made some brackets. i've been trying to clean the cooler, i've got it to the point that any carb cleaner i put in it, comes out still clean. but i've noticed if i turn the cooler from side to side, it makes sounds, almost as if something is moving around inside of it. is this normal? i haven't taken out the bottom drain plug yet, if that matters, it doesn't leak, and there are no metal shavings or solids in the carb cleaner thats gone through it. just wondering if anyone has noticed this before
thanks
Steve

I took mine to the radiator shop and had them test it.

its not a by-pass valve; its a t-stat and it shouldnt make any noise even if its inside.

Remove the t-stat but put the large cap back on. then use a garden hose to clean the inside and if available, compress air. Be sure to clean the t-stat and spring prior to installation. Those darn t-stat can fail also.

pretty easy to drop the Tstat in some boiling water to see if it works. pics and other info are in the FSM
