question about custum cooling method

as u might know im in the middle of repainting my car.. anyway when i had my hood off the other day i was loooking around in my engine bay and had an idea. i dont know if anybody else has done it or not so i thought id ask and get yalls opinion. on the firewall after removing my a/c lines and stuff i noticed it is pretty clean and just bare metal. well i was thinking about cutting two good size holes in it (one on each side of the hood latch) and finishing it off with a rubber trim to make it look nice. i want to do this because it seems that the holes and the vent on the top of the metal a obove it would act like a cowl hood and let the engine breathe better. please tell me if you think this is a good idea... pic is attactched.. black resembles holes and blue shows air flow after cutting em out thanks in advance

This has been covered before. You will get water in the engine with this kind of mod.

HEy if the car will never see the elements and isnt goiung to get wet, Hell do it. I think its a great idea, but everyone is right that your stuff will get wet.
Everyone knows that cooling is critical for the rotary, and if all it is is a race car that right on tell me how it works.

Okay, here is a quick draw up of the manual operated air flapper. The springs keep it shut and the hook keeps it open.

I also have a cable operated flapper designed and a electric flapper designed.

This is by far the easiest one to make.

If it's strictly drag, I'd think you'd be better to save the weight (every ounce counts) and just open the hood between runs or something. I know with my e-fan set to kick on at about 170 F, I don't have any trouble keeping the water (or the oil for that matter) well below dangerous levels.

Cool idea, but maybe not that practical.

Drill some drain holes, somehow, to let the water come out.

Wouldn't you get engine gases through your vents if you did this?
