Professionals help water pump (Pics)

So im putting the rx back together after the engine rebuild. This is my first time working on a car alone so i think i have done well so far. I Installed a new water pump housing and water pump i made sure in put washer on the 2 and 4 bolt. what i Want to know is if i put too much rtv on the gaskets (Pictures below). I also ordered a new rad and the new one has 2 tubes coming out the bottom of the rad right next to were the sensor goes. The one i took out the car does not have that. If i put a water hose from the first one to the second one will this work fine. I blew into one and air came out the other. Thanks Guys

the ports on the rad are for cars with automatic transmissions. you can just leave them open and not going to anything. As far as the RTV, why did you use it at all? A fresh gasket should of done the trick. I doubt you used too much though, doesn't look like it.

im doing all the work from word of mouth this forums search button and my small mechanical knowledge. People said that a little rtv wont hurt. Should i take if off and go clean gaskets. Im just worried i put too much and the engine sucks it in or sumthin.

yeah, pieces would get in your cooling system. Even if it did, i highly doubt you used enough to cause any problems.

Even when using gaskets (excluding exhaust gaskets), I 'dress' them with a very thin coating of RTV. Never had a leak that way, & it makes getting them off later a good bit simpler.

You may have got a bit heavy, but it likely won't cause you any issues so long as you let it fully cure before you fill the cooling system. Once cured, RTV is damn hard to tear apart.

I always use RTV too, it's cheap insurance against having to do the job over again.
As DD said, you went a bit heavy, but nothing that will cause any harm.
Whenever I get a new rad I usually cut those pipes off to make it look cleaner, they are useless unless you have an auto trans.

I wouldn't worry about the RTV

I wouldn't worry about the RTV although I usually put it on sparingly so it doesn't usually ooze out. The worse thing I could imagine is a piece or pieces break of on the inside and jam something like a radiator tube but I seriously doubt it. The pics you show don't look too bad, I've seen people put the stuff on so thick, you can pull it off when it dries.

Is that an SE or are you putting a 13b in a GSL?

The engine looks nice and clean and it also looks like you bought new oil injection lines, nice.

Who did you buy those dual pulleys from? I like the multiple timing marks I can see (that is what I'm seeing, yes?) even though I never use a timing light except for smog. My mark is almost invisible.

As someone already wrote, the two openings in the bottom of the rad are for automatic tranny cooling.

Your idler arm looks like it has been around a while, how tight is the steering? If you can move it up and down, it needs to be either rebuilt or replaced. I always get a new one instead of the kit and it seems every 1st gen I've owned or worked on needed it and the steering lash adjusted on the steering box.

Does NY have an annual smog inspection? I'd sure like to put a header on my SE but I'd hate to have to change it every two years when it needs smog. I'll just live with two empty pre-cats and a '90 3rd converter that allows me to pass smog.

Please, keep the pictures coming.

Yeah its an gslse. Yeah new lines from mazda trix. The engine was rebuilt by GOOPY performance. In NYC if the car is over 25 years all they do is a visual inspection no smog check. Yeah i was gonna take care of the suspension last after i have the engine running. I will go thinner next time with the RTV. Would i need a new gaskets if i took it off and did it again or is it fine just like that. I worry because i only can afford to do this once.

I wouldn't worry, you don't really have that much there. I usually put it on my fingers and slide them along the gasket so it gets a nice thin, even covering on both sides.

Is that RTV hardened? If so, you would need a new gasket but I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Since you've got a new rad, you don't have to worry about a plugged rad ruining your new baby.

I had the Mazda type oil lines leak on my current SE and it must have pumped all the oil out in 5 seconds. I put these on and although they are a little tight, they don't leak!

The image is from Racing beat and they cost $151 from them and you need around $60 in adapters. You can get the same lines from:
http://rx7world.net/component/page,s...mart/Itemid,1/

for $128. I don't know why they're cheaper (they're RB lines as well) and although it says to choose the adapter fittings you need, it doesn't list them or note if they are included for $128.

I happen to like RB but it's up to you, they both support rotorys. Mazdatrix sells them as well with all the parts for $178; I don't know which ones are better, I'm sure someone here has a preference.

I bought the RB ones for my '90 and they were a much looser fit meaning that the lines weren't stretched tight like the ones on my SE but now they're much better and still no leaks.

Keep the oil in the engine and the water out of the combustion chamber and they will last for a long time. Although I don't do it as much now (after replacing 3 rear ends, I think it was 3), I used to hit the rev buzzer on every shift and never did any damage that I noticed to the engine; I wish I could say that about the grenaded rear ends. Never caused any engine problems on other FBs I've had either.

I just noticed, we have identical interiors. I'm in the process of changing it to grey after my beautiful leather seats that looked like yours turned rock hard and split.

I've got the glove box, dash trim that has mirror controls on left and cruise control button on right, middle console, back panels, door panels, rear panel, all trim, steering wheel and some cheapy leather 'racing' type seats I got on Ebay.

While the seats were cheap, they fit with a little finessing so they slide and recline and I get a lot of comments on them. Unfortunately, they look better than they are comfortable. The leather ones I had were really comfortable; I just slacked off on the leather cleaner, restorer and they eventually got hard and split. Don't let this happen to yours.

I'm going to get grey carpeting when I have time. I'm tempted to take the next grey dash I see at the pick and pull and take it. It's either that or interior paint. Same thing with the overhead liner. I figure that sooner or later I'll have to remove the dash to replace the heater control valve and then I'll put the grey dash in.

I don't know how Mazda described that particular color of interior in the dealer brochure unless they said it was pimping burgundy
